Yes, we both do not have the MSM gmapsupp in the Garmin folder in main memory.

Everything was fine until i did a search of POI. I spell the name, and found the results. Once I clicked on the result and tap the "map" button (maybe too fast or several times), it hangs for a while and then shuts down.

This has happened even after I re-loaded the MFM map. Are you able to simulate my issue with your 255W unit?

Mito, I did as requested :
Went to POI
did a spell search
Clicked on address
And nuvi was able to simulate without any problems
Mine is checked with Malfree maps. MSM is checked off.

Backup (copy n paste) all files in your nuvi into your PC (just in case something goes wrong).
Rename gmapprom1.img and gmapprom.img into gmapprom1.imgx and gmapprom.imgx respectively.
See whether your problem still exists.

Hi Silverbeauty,

The 225W still shuts down after I reloaded the map as per your suggestion.

Anyone can try to simulate the problem with MFM latest map using Nuvi range devices?

I might wanna send back to the shop for warranty if any of yours appears to be okay....

i hv the same prob but my set is nuvi 300. i posted the issue in another newbie thread.

my nuvi is old set & i don't hv any maps in the internal memory. but the nuvi works with MSM (which is in another sd card).

anyway hope u can resolve yr issue soon esp since yrs is a new set, got chance to exchange for new one. all the best !

Thanks for the simulation. Mine happened when i do it in a faster way. Or maybe my fingers are too fast. When it stopped responding, i tap the "map" button further and i guess the proprietary OS cannot take it i guess.

I have not tried because in the afternoon, i sent it to the shop and they advised me to leave for distributor to check it after I demo my issue to the technical guy. Sigh... no GPS to use. Hope I can try to play around your suggestion when it comes back with the same issue.

I dun think they will replace 1 to 1 as they were reluctant to do so. Hope the distributor "AECO" (http://www.aeco.com.my/) can fix fast. Otherwise, I'll bug them until they replace.

Dear All,

I would like to announce that my Nuvi 255W unit is really having problem. I can conclude this because my sister in law also bought the same unit and she asked me to install the lastest MFM as of 19th Apr 2009 (v1.54a).

Before installation, I tested the search function with my super fast fingers to conduct the stress tests. Once the results appeared, i tap on one of them and then without even wasting time, I tap on the "Map" buttons many times repeatedly and quickly about 20-30 times. (simulation as if I am in danger or during emergency to get to safe location like police station or nearest hospital)

The unit did not shut down at all !!! It managed to display the map after a while (even) and it is proven that MFM is 101% perfect together with Garmin's proprietary GPS software.

The same test result appeared after I helped her to install the latest MFM.

My unit is really problematic!

I would like to thank so many of you for the time taken to share out whatever possibilities that may cure my unit.

Nice to know that there is no problem with MFM maps. Then AECO will not be able to pass the buck to MFM

i just bought new nuvi 255w and i faced the same problem.. when i want to preview map.. my garmin hang then shutdown.. but only certain location in muar... what i do is, click GO first, after that you can select map preview. so far my garmin looks fine...
i think there is an error in certain POI in mfm version..
whatever it is... i love mfm

Please let us know where in map does the error occurs so we can fix it. Provide us co-ordinates with mapsource gdb file.
