Navigation gone haywire

Today experienced navigation error (detour) on 255w and 205w.
Both with MFM-Garmin-130701

255w - from Giant Tampines to Plaza Singapura
it detoured me all the way to Woodlands Checkpoint before coming down towards town.
even when i'm out of CTE tunnel at Orchard exit, it still try to navigate me back to woodlands checkpoint
No issues on a GPS off 205W, with the same start and end point

205w - Vivocity to Bugis, it detoured me to Moulmien and then back towards town, didn't do screen shot.
but navigation was in a straight line direct to Bugis, as if I am flying straight to the destination.

These two devices tend to also goes into reboot at times while navigation, or sometimes, it goes
into the USB mode (the usual mode it displays when we are trying to transfer map data), before going to
the standby (where to) screen.. both using the same supplied garmin in car charger

what could be the reason for these issues?

Looks like you have a bad Mini USB power connector. The Nuvi will read the ID (usually an 18K Ohm resistor to Gnd) and if the short to Gnd is not found (meaning open circuit) at this pin it will goes into the Data mode. Hopefully it is not the Nuvi connector that is giving problem...

You can go to http://www.Element14.com to buy the connector and resistor to change it.

P/S: if both your Nuvi are giving the same problem using the same power supply then you can be sure the power wire connector is bad.

Hope this helps...

This has happened to me before and I found 2 possibilities:

1. User data corrupted. Problem solved when I did a hard reset and deleted user data.

2. Accidentally changed Navigation Mode to Pedestrian. The solution to this is obvious.

a hard reset - will it revert to default mode?

Hard reset will revert unit back to factory default settings.
Back up your favorites, track log etc... and remember your Nuvi setup conditions suited to your preference.

yes, the 255W is excellent. a lot of the newer ones, the "improvements" are not worth it, and when I tried is less stable in satellite lock. 255W may be slower, but not so slow as to really matter...
