So here's a wonderful thing i've found out. You're not limited to the GMAPPROM and GMAPSUPP filename =P~

Now can use Thailand.img; MFM01xxxx.img ; MSMxxxx.img ; GMAPSUPP.img ; GMAPSUP1.img ....... =P~

The problem however is that if you run BOTH MFM and MSM maps; the Dakota will read BOTH POI databases :fire:

Same problem i have with my GMXT........

Will have to file a report to Garmin about this.....

that why i only tick 1 maps

Sorry.. yeah.. i meant INSTALL both maps. Didnt mean RUN. My Mistake.
Even when you select to use only MFM maps; the dakota reads BOTH the MSM and MFM POI databases.

Really screw around with me lar the list of POI's. Still searching garmin's site for reporting bugs

Yes, this is true for GMXT too, disabled maps are just hidden from view.

Send Garmin an email; takes them a few days to respond. I respond balik; takes 2-weeks to reply back. At this rate.....

Just killed my Garmin Dakota 20. Was doing the 2.80 update via the MyGarmin site. After the firmware was downloaded; have to disconnect the cable and restart the device. When power-on; hangs at the GARMIN logo scrreen. Wont load. Anybody with an idea how to force feed a firmware into the devicce?

If both MSM and MFM are installed, I've also found out that only one of the mapsets' address index is available (no matter which one is disabled/enabled). :shock:
This is unlike in a Nuvi where unticked maps are disabled for good. I wonder if it's any different in the Oregon? :-k

@DVPRO

Are you using the new firmware yet? Mine is still in Aeco workshop. Dunno if garmin will honor the repair work or not. Worse case scenario i'll have to buy a new Dakota :( And i've barely had mine for over a month with just abit if mileage :(

I may be getting a Iphone 4th gen when it comes out. So means i'll be flipping between a Nuvi 255w, Dakota and Iphone (Papago) for all my GPS........... THank goodness for MalFree :)

Yes, already updated to v2.90. As for your bricked Dakota, I think you can actually fix it using RGN+Updater.exe, like most other Garmin devices.

I followed bad instructions.. bricked it even worse which was why i had to send into Garmin. First time lesson.. pay tuition fees lor... accidentally injected OREGON firmware instead of DAKOTA firmware. Couldnt find a way to get the DAKOTA firmware back in after that.
