Oregon 450 Guidance Text

Postby lifedrive » Wed Oct 20, 2010 11:20 pm

Hi to all.

Is it possible when navigating on road, to make the Guidance Text shows the next turn direction immediately after every turn rather than displaying the current road name where you are on? Yes it shows the next turn direction but only when it is about 300m reaching the turn where I find that 300m is too near for me to prepare for the turn especially in traffic jams.

Thanks

Yes, you can do that by selecting the appropriate number of Data Fields, and at one of the Data Fields, you can change the info to "Distance To Next".

To enable Data Fields, select Setup > Map > Data Fields. Select any "number" options except "0" ("0" means disable). If you select any of the "number" options (I'd recommend selecting "2" fields), you would get Data Fields in map page. When you tap at any of the Data Fields (at map page), you can replace its content with a number of data types, including "Distance To Next". Furthermore, if you prefer to have different types of Data Fields when navigating and not navigating (or to have Data Fields only when navigating or not navigating), choose Custom.

Hi dvpro, thanks for your prompt reply.

Also thanks for the explanation, but that's not the issue I'm facing. Maybe I can simply put it in this way but I'm not sure of its possibility. What I want when navigating is the directions shown in the Active Route page to be displayed on top of the map in the Map page. Meaning, once I completed the first turn, the display should show the direction of the next turn (eg exit Left or turn Right) immediately even if the distance to the next turn is 10km away for example.

Most of the time it displays something like "SE on ramp", "East on ramp", "Grange Road to alley", etc. which I dont find it useful.

Hope I dont make things complicated :D

Thanks.

Now I get what you mean. But unfortunately that is not possible. The turn direction will only come up when nearing the next turn. And to make things worse, among the data types for Data Fields there is no next turn direction.

just got myself a 450 (prev use etrex hcx) and loving it except for some minor quirks
1. my nuvi1350 got waypoints category - but found there is no category in the Ore450
2. no night mode? even my etrex prev got night mode

my unit bought thru mail order (local) - im a bit puzzle on some things
1. no sirim cert?? dealer cert??
2. no plastic protector on the screen??
3. no warranty card - seller said no warranty card in all garmin product??
[unit preloaded with MFM in main memory, and software version 4.31, yesterday i updated to 4.32 beta]

maybe someone can enlighten me on things i post above - thx in advance
