Why Garmin 3790 no JCV?

Postby Franklkk » Sun Jun 09, 2013 1:40 pm

Hi all. I have a Garmin 3790 come with my Volvo. However, it only show sg/my map but not no jcv. I wrote in to Garmin and was told that my set does not have jcv. So, I would like to get advice from the brothers & sisters here.

Can my garmin install with a jcv? How can I do it?

Thanks

Volvo may have supplied a Nuvi 3790 with your car but it may NOT be a localized set thus JCV does not work. You will have to check with Volvo on the deal they struck with Garmin on what was agreed

You will need localized firmware for JCV to work as Garmin regionalized the hardware

How to get a localized firmware? Isn't with this fireware I will be able to view JCV for sg & my? By installing this fireware means all my EU maps will be gone unless I do a backup right?

Need to be sure cos I don't have any knowledge about technical detail of a GPS.

Thanks in advance.

Firmware n Maps are two things. U can backup maps in your set and re-instate as when u like on your unit. Due to copyright legalities, Maps are normally locked to your device ID

As you had contacted Garmin and they responded that your set does not have this feature. Believe this is a commercial decision to discriminate sets from different zones in world.

But when I look at the box that come with my Garmin. The box indicated that they is JCV function. I also believed that it should come with this feature. i surfed through the net & they is no website says that all 3790 model has JCV feature. I believed that somehow the company have disable the feature.

Hope I am right. There must be a way to do enable it so that I can have my JCV in my 3790.

Yes, Garmin has disable rest of world 3790 sets from enjoying this feature. One model double standard :frus:

So sad if Garmin really fo that. It also mean that Volvo brought this gps at a very very special price but look presentable to give it to their buyer.

Set still available in their web site https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/digital/prod89234.html

Its still a good set, use our free-to-download CGS Mapper compiled map which is released weekly. As we are using third party compiler, it does not have JCV and LA.

Re: Garmin Nuvi3790 SG/MY

Postby keyven » Tue Jul 23, 2013 11:10 am

Hi all

I have the following info from my 3790

Nuvi 3790V
Software Version: 2.50
GPS Firmware: 2.50
Maps loaded:
Malsingmaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT2011.10
City Navigator Singapore/Malaysia NT 2011.10

I copied the MFM maps in SD card directory /garmin/malfreemaps/

Wonder why this is not showing up and how to use it?

A brief advise should be appreciated
