New maps is recommended to be put in SD card/map directory
Preloaded maps reside in Main Memory/system directory. This is a hidden file by default. Set up via windows to display hidden files.

What you already have are probably the preloaded maps (and they are very old) so leave them unchecked in Map Info. There is no need to do anything else. They will only contribute to your miseries.
I am still using firmware v2.40 because I find all later versions have issues that I am not happy with.
If your GPS is functioning properly, there is no reason to update the firmware just because it is available.
How did you load the MFM110620 onto your SD card?
You have to load the image into one of the following folders in your SD card - \Garmin or \Map. Create them if your SD card does not have them. If you copy the gmapsupp.img generated by the installer into either folder, it will work. Your Nuvi 1460 allows you to have access to more than 1 map on the fly. To enjoy that, use the \Map folder instead and before you intend to place the second map in, change the file name of gmapsupp.img to something else you can recognise e.g. MFM110620.img so that your second map can be named secondmap.img and you will not accidentally delete one of them.
Lean not on your own understanding

Presumed updates is for better, not worse

Reinstalled again per advised. Back to square 1

Superb all thanks to Silverbeauty

I've swapped my nuvi880 sd as trial. Woah-la... unit back-in-action.
BTW, just to share, firmware v2.80 has hiccups. Satelite tracking takes ages to locate... a cool 4-5mins lapse (in open area). Will reinstall back to my old faithful v2.30 onwards
Re: Garmin Nuvi 1450 / 1460
Anyone know how does this Garmin Nuvi 2465 compares with 1460? I'm using Garmin Mobile XT on my E71 all these while and recently I was given 200w from my siblings as they upgraded to 1460. After seeing how the 1460 performs, I'm totally buy with that GPS. Since 200W might or might not perform better than my Mobile XT, I'm pretty keen to see what other affordable GPS I can get that lock fast with great accuracy.
