Is it right for us at MfM to Decide if the GPS from China a clone or 'illegal'? Isn't this prejudice? Are GPS OEM making it known that these devices are clone? .... .... Cheers!

To me it not my right to judge that, as long as its a GPS and can contribute and Navigate... its

We don't judge. We merely announces the fact so that visitors of MFM can decide for themselves what to buy.

You guys may be able to handle an OEM GPS with ease but take a peek at the Goozee thread. Many were duped into buying a GPS device without any software and map support. What MFM can do is to explain the pros and cons of buying China-made GPS with illegal software and let our members and visitors decide.

There is no way MFM can stop such devices from using the MFM map. However, if MFM wants to be positioned as a reputable organisation then we should not entertained questions such as map supportability, for such devices.

These pirated devices may be cheap, but I would rather spend more and support a legitimate device.

Thank you for the replies.

There are so many types of 'China Made GPS' in the market. How are we going to know which one is legal or otherwise? The responsibility to differentiate should lies with the manufacturer concern. Our role at MfM should be to help those with A GPS that need our map to navigate. No one can blame us for supporting a questionable GPS set when its IP holder kept its silent... Are we Policing for the OEM?

Let's review our role as many innocent users with such GPS that need our help.... cheers!

I don't support piracy.

Bro Moey,

There are so many types of 'China Made GPS' in the market. How are we going to know which one is legal or otherwise?

Legal or not legal depends on the software. We know for sure Garmin does not support OEM PNDs so China-made GPS that uses GMXT is definitely not legal. Maction Tech advises me on which are their official licensees. Therefore I know which models are uploaded with original Papago software. So at this moment, we are very clear which are the legal ones and which are the pirated ones.

Our role at MfM should be to help those with A GPS that need our map to navigate

I am not sure if I understand your point correctly. Both statements seem to be conflicting each other. Are you suggesting that we only respond to people that can use our map only? If it is so, how about those who had bought a China-made GPS and asking for help? How do we help? Appreciate if you can spell out we should do and what we should not do

Bro antyong,

Sorry for the confusion. Here is my explanations.

"Our role at MfM should be to help those with A GPS that need our map to navigate" - Any users that need/uses our maps should be given assistance/advice. If yes, than next question is irrelevant.

"Let's review our role as many innocent users with such GPS that need our help.... cheers" - Review our stand on whether to help these GPS owners - illegal sets. They are victims of unethical businessmen and there are calls in this thread to shut them out.

Hope it is clear now... cheers!

Ok, understand now :)

"Our role at MfM should be to help those with A GPS that need our map to navigate" - exactly my thoughts

And we help by:
- Informing and explaining the differences between China-made OEM GPS vs China-made GPS with original software (more confusing  )
- Advising buyers of China-made OEM GPS to seek support and exchange if possible
- Sharing with them what we know about using Garmin or Papago

We don't shut out anybody. As long as there is no discussion about cracking software and no breaking of forum rules, there is no reason to restrict any discussion :)

IMHO its good to let person buying any GPS know the pros and con, either China made or Garmin vs Papago scenario.., on legality issue I will not elaborate... because... we could be preaching legality.. but ask ourself how many use legal GMXT on our mobile or mapsource on our pc.

I am more concern on the technical aspect of GPS, a person buying a unit must know what they are buying.

Yep..., last statement by Antyong is fine with me.... :peace:
I feel sad that Antyong retired - Mapping Community should not be taken advantage off...use http://www.waze.com it's payback time

Nice~~!! Just do not talking about cracking tech and problems or or any cracking keywords.

Any GPS devices are legal~~!!!GPS is made with LCD+mother borad+battery and box. there is no illegal problem at all. If you wan say cracked LCD screen. -.-

"Garmin mobile XT" also is legal~~! Garmin Product~

"I use Garmin mobile XT, got xxxxx problem" is legal.
"I use Cracked Garmin Mobile XT, got xxxx problem" is illegal.
"I use XX Garmin Mobile Xt, got xxxx problem" is not show is legal or illegal.

Easy? :peace: every one is happy

There do not need to compare a china-gps or a official gps. I have both. If you buy a china-gps do not show your price to a official gps buyer. If you a official gps do not show how legal software and good service to a no brand gps buyer.

Both of them have their own advantage and disadvantage. Both of them can lead way to what to you want to. Only MFM Fourm is who i want to thank to. Cause MFM make me more easy to seach and to find way on my gps with no fee and make my gps more easy to use..
