While be installing Solar Film for my car and was wondering which Solar Film do disrupt the GPS signal. When I approach most of the Solar Film installer their claim is that their film do not disrupt GPS but what I need is a honest feedback from user rather then from the merchant. Thanks.

You can try it with your GPS before you install it

It depends what solarfilm and what GPS device. For Garmin, so far only certain model of VKool may cause poor signal reception but not to the extend of blocking.

you guys are right. I should not have said that the GPS signal will not be blocked but rather disrupted. One of my friend after installing the solar film has problem locking onto the GPS signal, his Garmin unit takes longer then usual to acquire a lock. While on the move signal is frequenlty lost and the GPS set keeps recalculating the route.

Check the specifications of the model of solar film offered at installer. Those that use "metallic ingredients" as their base material for solar heat attenuation are the ones that will disrupt the radio signals of the GPS.

My car have Aircool no problem

I use Vkool in my car, it distrupt abit.

Takes longer time to lock but once lock it stay regardless of condition. To avoid longer aquire time I sometimes switches on the Garmin earlier outside the car (where practicle)

My E71 will have problem in my car, due to the vkool.

My Vkool is not metalic base, I purposely ask for that. A friend of mine use Vkool metalic in his VIOS and he say its more difficult to lock or sometime impossible.

I Advise you get a piece of the film and wrap the GPS with it and see.

Normally it lock to satellite about 30 second to 1 minute in my old car without Vkool on my Nuvi 250W, with Vkool in my new car it can take up to 5 minutes.

What thinking of installation 3M solar film was wondering if anyone have got experience with the mentioned ?

I use Ultra Cool.

Need to get satellite lock before getting in...

And often lost satellite connection.

Use ext antenna....

Instead of using an external antenna, why not use a reradiating antenna. When you change your GPS unit in future, you would not have to worry about external antenna's connector type.
