My 1460 is sealed with 2 ports - a mini USB and another port which looks like another USB but slightly flattened (like that of a nokia power inlet). No SD slot. I believe the 1690 has an SD slot but reverted to a 4.3" screen.

Thks for reading my post =D>

Anyone else ????

hi, i bought a nuvi 1460 (from aeco at low yat) for my dad and it has a sd slot, it's at the side, a micro sd card slot. with the display screen facing you, the slot is on the top left side of the unit. becareful when slotting in the card, look at where the chip of the card is supposed to be, facing upward and downward. i find that it is different from the slot in my nuvi 255w.

i actually "junked" the manual from garmin - it is so brief! i actually created another easy reference guide for my dad to use his nuvi 1460, categorised by function. of course i got my inspirations from the many sifus here who created beautiful easy-to-understand and self-explanatory help sheets and guides for us.

OK Fellas, my bad.
The "nokia-like" port is actually the micro-SD slot. I bought a S$38 8G ScanDisk and 70 minutes later Ive got my Europe map installed. And no delay in loadup or accessing addresses. \:D/

Actually 8G is not really that large, considering that N America maps can easily take 1-2 GB. Now I can take it over there - but next the POIs. Anybody wld like to answer Q.3 in my first post in this forum?

Use Garmin Mapsource to insert personal POIs and then transfer to Nuvi

Seems it was fixed in newer firmware ...

Here is my feedback to Garmin Corporate: The next update software should allow the 1460 to access maps through the USB to an external device such as a CDROM drive or an external SD adapter. This is critical - as more users are taking it to drive overseas. Im sure access time can be handled with fast USB. Also software updates can be done via CD because the downloads now lasts over an hour.
(I hope somebody reads this!)

Here is what Ive found re getting maps on 1460: Suppose I buy a NAmerica map from Garmin (say the 2010.40). After reading everywhere I assume the following will be installed in the MAIN memory which is at 1.8G for the 1460:
a) NAmerica gmapsupp.img Size 1.309G in folder /Garmin.
b) NAmerica JCV file D1279050A 38M in folder /Garmin/jcv
c) gmap3d.img and gmaptz.img 40M in folder /Garmin
Total required just to install a NAmerica map with a working JCV feature: 1.35G
Notice that I am not using an SD because for the JCV to work the gmapsupp.img must reside in the /Garmin main memory folder together with the respective JCV folder (Please somebody - correct me if I am wrong! But this must be true after Ive read and tried everything using simulations).
Now the SingMal system working JCV requires about 995M of system memory. That leaves 817.2M for the 1.35G I need.

Result? :The Garmin memory arch cannot allow my SingMal-JCV to coexist with a proper NAmerica-JCV install.
I am not about to delete factory software that works! Even the Hakka language!

More thots for GarminCorp to improve in their next software update.

It is not true that all the maps must be installed in the main memory for it to work. It can also reside in the SD card. I have a 765 and have installed the MSM NT map, together with the JCV file, on my SD card and it works like a charm. Though I dun own a 1xxx device, but I believe technically it should work the same. When you install the map to the SD card, I understand the 1xxx series can read any file names, so I dun think there is any need to change the map file name (gmapprom1.img), unlike the older series where all map name must be named gmapsupp. If there is a need to, then change the file name to gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp.unl for the unlock code file.

Tried the following:

JCV folder with file D1279050A.img in SD/Garmin/
gmap3D.img and gmaptz.img in SD/Garmin folder
gmapsupp.img in SD/Garmin folder

(EDITED at 4pm 29Apr)
OK finally got a JCV on Long Island Expressway (I495) after simulating for a long time. The Junction View is fullscreen (unlike the split one on MSM) and very, very few. The only one I have seen in above simulation is a nobrainer.

I will try a later NAmerica version 2011.10 and see whether there are more helpful JCVs inserted. BTW the above is in 3D with proper lane-assist. O:)

(Edited at 10am 4May)
The 2011-10 works with fullscreen JCV, 3D and lane assist.
Caveat: Avoid cut and paste if doing file copy manually. Avoid moving files from SD to trash (takes time to actually delete completely) needs lots of patience to wait out each file transfer :ko:

I have been using Nuvi 200W and 250W and is considering buying the Nuvi 1450 from US Amazon.. I noticed this forum covers the Nuvi 1460 which is not in the Garmin US site. My question is what is the difference between the Nuvi 1450 and the Nuvi 1460? Can I continue to use MFM on Nuvi 1450. Thanks for your help.

Very minor differences between the two. 1460 is for Asian release while 1450 for domestic USA release. 1460 has bluetooth, Garmine Locate, Local JCV feature.

Both units can use MFM maps
