Mapsource in Ubuntu

Postby morisa » Tue Jan 04, 2011 4:40 pm

Hi everybody,

I've just installed ubuntu into my DELL laptop. I like it very much.
I also downloaded wine to run windows programs.
1) I managed to run MFM installer and get the gmapsupp.img generated as in win7.
2) I managed to install mapsource and open it. The problem is that I can't see any maps eventhough I've selected it in the mapsource menu. Can anybody help me?
or shall I downgrade to mapsource 6137?
Any helps will be much appreciated.

regards,
morisa

What is the name of the map you say you can select in Ubuntu Mapsource?

I wouldn't have thought Mapsource looks at Gmapsupp.img for the map data.

I will get more details once I arrived at my home. I am replying via my mobile right now, so can't really remember the details.

when hovering the mouse over it, it does display the text but still no maps display.
I've done some reading and it is advisable to downgrade to MapSource-6137 to properly see the map.
Still downloading the file and will install it later and post the outcome after that.

So, if there is anybody who wants to try running MapSource in UBUNTU, please do these;
1) Download and install WINE using "UBUNTU Software Center"
2) Download and install Mapsource-6137 (please search for it using google) - WINE
3) Download and run MFM latest installer (any latest installer is OK) - WINE
4) Open Mapsource and you can see the maps.
(it will be laggy if you set Map Detail to; High, Higher or Highest)
5) I can now forget about Windows7 already.

quickNote:
Microsoft Office 2007 can also be installed using WINE.
