Converting Nuvi 2x5W Firmware to MAL/SIN Firmware

the "missing software" matter happened to me before.

So, extra precaution have to take to encounter the problem especially when plug in the USB.

sometime, when plug in too slow meanwhile need to click on the "USB" tab in the windows will make it fail.

Woke up and the first thing I did was bit the bullet and did the flash . Guess what...it frickin worked! awesome!

everything is fine. copied over the sing/mal voices too. thanks a lot peterK for the guide and tips.

EDIT: can i use webupdater to update maps or softwares after this flash? will it auto flash back to the US firmware?

DO NOT use WebUpdater anymore after conversion to SG/MY firmware. Doing so will most likely brick the device since the voice/text files are not compatible (Asian Voice/Text are not compatible with US firmware, likewise for the other way round).

Esp. for this S4 conversion. It combines Boot BLK & X-Loader of US v5.30 and System Software of SG/MY v2.70, thus when using WebUpdater, it will most likely recognize it as US device and will attempt to get the US voice/text files. After that, next time you boot cycle the device, it will most likely detect incompatibility and then device no longer operates normally (eg. white screen, repeat loading cycle or other issues).

Do you know what I can do? I tried flash it with the us firmware on my 260w and now it kept failing "loading maps", then reboot.

The 2x0W series is different than 2x5W series, and the thread here is mainly for 2x5 series firmware flash. So, for your case, i m not sure how the firmware flash is going to be. However, you have to refer to bro othroz via pm, so far he is the only one i noticed being successful for the firmware flash.

Just got my 255W US version with board S4 and software version 6.0...

Cannot seem to get into preboot mode.. i press and hold the upper left corner of screen and plug in the usb cable.
But when it detects the unit id and i press ok, the updater.exe almost instantly jumps to 100% and nothing changes.
Using the rgn file 082701000270S4US..

Anyone can help?

Also, how do I revert back to US firmware in the event I want to? Any links to the rgn file for this?

Please spend some effort to read earlier post in this thread.

need some help over here... i successfully converted my nuvi 205w us vision to SG/MY version... but i had a strange issues... i notice it always asking for "set locale" and my clock did not save to what i had set.

Is this normal? If not normal then pls help on this !

Go outside and allow the unit to fix some satelites and your problems will be gone.
Also, let the unit adjust the time automatically. The time will be adjusted according
to your present location.

Wow ! I saw your thread and thought wat the heck... give it a try... and it was a successfully conversion. And i'm kinda panic when it happened, it was 2am at midnite and decided to call it a day and woke this morning... voila ! It all seems back to normal again !
