Hi,
I don't know if you know the program Qlandkarte from www.qlandkarte.org. It is a really nice program for Linux users, but there is also a mac and windows version available.
The program is especially for Garmin users who work on Linux. You can do all things you usually do with mapsource like transfering tracks, waypoints and routs.
The problem is, although the program is especially for Garmin maps, I am unable to open to MFM maps, the program returns an error code, saying that the img files may be in a new NT format. I also tried a 1.62 map which should be in the old formt, but still the same trouble.
Does anybody know something about this change in Garmin maps? It would be nice to get the MFM maps running on Qlandkarte since as fas as I know it is the only program which comes close to Mapsource on Linux.

Hello, maybe you want to try the lite version IMG (minus the polygons) as well:
MFM-Litev161.zip
However, if the same issue is encountered, maybe you should split the main IMG map into separate IMG files first using GMapTool (there's a Linux version available as well).

Re: Qlandkarte, trouble opening MFM maps
Concerning Qlandkarte GT,
with the old qlandkarte you could open single img files, but not anymore with the new qlandkarte gt. It needs a complete set of maps. It only opens a tdp file which links to the maps.
Qlandkarte GT opens the tdp file but when it tries to open the img files it complains about the new file typ.
I will try to 1.61 lite, but if it only contains a gmsupp.img it won't work.

I'm afraid v1.61 Lite is just GMAPSUPP.IMG.
So how do you actually install MFM map into Qlandkarte GT, I mean from MFM installer?

Re: Qlandkarte, trouble opening MFM maps
Quite simple,
you use the installer and let it copy the maps in the garmin directory for example. From there you open the tdb file of the mapset in the directory. Then qlandkarte tries to open the img files but complains about the not supported NT format. So the question is since when NT is used in your mapset.
I am now downloading 1.61 to see if that one works.

For some reason the mfm.img file is opened, so you can see the top layer of the map, but the tiles such as 63000.img for example can't be opened.

Freiburger, can you try installing this mapset into Qlandkarte GT? It's MFM v1.62 (non-NT last version) mapset, generated from GMAPSUPP.IMG using GMapTool.

Re: Qlandkarte, trouble opening MFM maps
Thanks for the map, but
it did not work.
The program opens the map without error message, but then I only see the outlines of the maps, but not the map itself. Neither do I see the MFM.img nor the other img.
OK, I understand when you say now, not my problem, our maps are working on garmin devicec. You are right.
I tried also a masmap of Kuala Lumpur and this one is working, but I prefer the MFM map. That is why I am trying to get this to work. The point about Qlandkarte is, that for some unknown reason the author left out the option to open a single img file. Since the update from Qlandkarte to Qlandkarte GT there is no option to open a single img file, which would now be of big help to find the error. I think that it might ne a problem with the tdb file, although qlandkarte does not return an error message.
I will now try the 1.61 map and see how it works.
Will be back in a couple of minutes

Re: Qlandkarte, trouble opening MFM maps
OK,
now a report of my last try:
I downloaded the 1.61 which should not be a NT map.
I installed both versions, the full customisation and the other one. In both versions I can open the tdb without any error but then I see nothing else then the map outline. No map at all. not even the overview.
I checked then with gpsmapedit but could not find anything different from the masmap.
On the other hand I tried the masmap on a windows system. Later I will try to open the masmap on the linux system.

qlandkartegt does not support offline routing/navigation. I think the point is moot. At least for me.
