by default mfm maps are installed at the root directory under X:\Garmin\malfreemaps (where x is the root directory).

When you start the installer for the mfm maps, where is the default directory?

are you by any chance using dual-boot i.e. 2 OS in a single machine? I had this also - WinXP on C: and Windows 7 on D:. Since Windows 7 is the newer OS, the bootloader will boot into Windows 7 unless you tell it otherwise. Even though I was on Win XP, Mapsource got install onto the Win7 drive i.e. D: and garmin directory + mfm was installed on C: but I could still open mapsource when running winxp.

Since removing win7 and using only winxp, everything is now installed into the c:/ root. I read in one of the foreign GPS Forum (can't remember which one), as long as your maps are installed in the garmin folder, GMPC or mapsource will be able to locate them, so there is no harm in installing the maps into c:/ but make sure it is in the Garmin folder at the root directory.

nope. No dual boot. What the options that you guys tick when installing the mfm maps? Do you all tick all the options, or just select some?

MFM Mapsource mapset has got nothing to do with GMPC installed maps. Unlike nRoute, GMPC reads off map data from GMAPSUPP.IMG file, not from Mapsource map product.

From Mapsource > Send To Device > Garmin Mobile PC.
From Nuvi > Mapsource (Receive From Device) > Send To Device > Garmin Mobile PC.

However, please note that with the latest version, Mapsource will not detect GMPC if there is no GMAPPROM.IMG or GMAPPROM1.IMG in ?:\GarminMobilePC folder. GMPC must also read this map file first, then only it will work (must start GMPC after the IMG is placed in the folder).

Hi Saiza, have you verified whether any of these map files is present in GMPC installed folder?
