Converting Nuvi 2x5W Firmware to MAL/SIN Firmware

i have a nuvi 255w chn. after flashed, it became nuvi 2w. any chance to modify it to show nuwi255w ms/sg instead of nuvi2w? please advise. thanks.
btw i saw nuvi 255w twn unit flashed and show nuvi255w my/sg.

Actually you're not necessary to use what US v2.80 RGN.
Now already too late, your nuvi will be permanently became Nuvi 2W series.
No way to revert it back to Nuvi 255W
Flashing to Nuvi 2W series only apply for Nuvi 205W.

Is the new map SgMyMal_2009.30 compatible with the converted unit (v2.7 or 2.8)?

I am confused since previous map SgMyMal_2009.5 require us to key in unit id. SgMyMal_2009.30 wants our serial number? What's the difference?

How bout a S4 unit? Does it become a SG/MY set?
And how to revert back to US firmware (pre-S4 and S4 unit)? Is there a guide for this?

Converted S4 units do not become SG/MY sets, they're detected as a US set (HWID:827)
but they actually use Sg/MY system software.

To revert back to US firmware:

For Pre-S4 units, just flash the 082701000500en.rgn in the 2W file download link and use
webupdater to update to latest US firmware.
Note: You have to follow the same guide to flash the US firmware, including the steps to
delete the voice and language folders, and after all the steps, copy back the language
and voice folders that you backed up from the original US set.

For S4 units, you can immediately use webupdater to update to latest US firmware.

For S4, it won't work. Check out PeterK post either this page or the page before. I remember he mentioned the step for converted S4.

According to Peterk...For "flashed" S4, can just use webupdater to upgrade to 2.8....not sure this will convert back to a US unit using this method....

No, for flashed S4 units, you have to use a modified RGN file that combines the BootBLK and X-Loader
of the US v5.70 with SG/MY v2.80's system software. I've never done this so I'm not confident about it.
May be someone else can help.

Why do you want to "localise" it so soon?

Use it, enjoy it and get familiar with it first.

Localising it will not bring anything extra cos JCV will not be there with MFM, LA is on trials with the other maps. Doing it will only void the warranty.
