Re: Converting Nuvi 255W US Firmware to MAL/SIN Firmware

I am waiting for the method to upgrade the local firmware from 2.7 to 2.8.
I have flashed my US set (S4 board, 827) to local firmware 2.7.

I successfully go through all the post ,
i also successfully flash my 205w according to the tutorial.
But i still facing the "Couldn't unlock map" problem. But i know how this happen, I think it is because my unit previously are using MFM, so it could not find MSM setting.
So i went to MSM website to download the map, but still in progress on how to install it.
I got a question, how do i update the firmware in future?

Hi,
Anyone have the solution to China boot logo? Beside the logo issue everything went well.
Still prefer MFM map compared to MSM but JCV function is very useful.

Hope to see MFM with JCV soon.

MSM NT2009.3B (April 2009) which has updated JCV images, the map is fixed
It can only be identified with a 255W and not the 205W. ( correct me if i m wrong )
U need to flash with lastest firmware if u wan to update latest firmware
Ur unit can not update 255w firmware with webupdater

Hi All sifu,
I am now having the Nuvi205W that bought from US. I do have some question on converting the US 205W firmware to MAL/SIN firmware, after reading all the post but still need some advise:-
a) can I continue using the US map after the firmware conversion?
b) can I have the tracking function on Nuvi 205W after the firmware update?
c) Where should I save the MSM that with JV maps? can it work by store it in the memory card?

Appreciated all the help and advice on this. Thanks in advance.

In garmin folder , create new jcv folder ...copy & paste jcv file inside .

Appreciated all the help and advice on this. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Uncle Wong, I do have more question:-
I will proceed the firmware update following the guide tonight. Hope No problem on it. :)

My question:-
a) Will I have the tracking function by default after the firmware update? What should I do to get this?

b) I will follow the MSM guide to install the latest map that have JV? Which file should I download and I am still not clear either it is ok to save in the memory card in the Garmin folder? Any detail instruction on downloading the MSM JCV map into my Nuvi 205W? What should I download from MSM? JCV file and how about which map should I use? Can I use MFM and the JCV file into JCV folder?
Can you Pm me more detial instuction to get the JCV work after the firmware update.

thanks
