did u manage to flash it to SG firmware 2.8. Cos i followed the instructions and only managed to get SG firmware 2.7.

yes. till 2.8.
i just downloaded the latest firmware from garmin and continue from 2.7

wanna ask u guys something.. i have a 205w from taiwan.. preloaded with taiwan maps etc.. also travel guides from taiwan.. all in traditional chinese..

if i am to update to my/sg firmware, will i still be able to use taiwan maps? will i still be able to view the travel guides? will i still be able to update my taiwan maps?

You loose ability to input Chinese ie... write on screen which is no big deal.

Travel guide will still work.

Mainland China map will also have a huge offset during navigation. I heard that the newer China NT maps resolves this but had not a change to authenticate yet.

You might loose your preloaded Taiwan map with new firmware or ability to update as firmware is now different

I though real hard about flashing local firmware on my Taiwan born 765 but decided against it as JCV not a die die must have. Lane Assist enough and not POI not showing solved with thanks to Antyong. The Taiwan firmware got more features vs USA / Europe as Can input Chinese which is real useful in Taiwan / China as the pin-yin translation difference drives you "bananas" Got preloaded Language Guide with Chinese to English and English to Chinese translation feature .....

There is no problem for the flash, nuvi can use all the garmin format maps. for sure u gain something, then u loose something.
If u really really want to make ur unit like 255W to have JCV, is ur choice to flash.

Just be aware the white screen issue on US unit HWID 1091, i m not sure this will happen to taiwan unit or not, maybe u can have a try and update the community.

Download the SgMyMal_2009.40.exe file from the garmin singapore official website here http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/s ... MapUpdate/

After download, right click on the SgMyMal_2009.40.exe, use winrar to extract it.

U will see many files, then look for the "MapData" folder, the JCV file is inside.

U can have a try but i guarantee u, it wont work on ur 205W unit, coz it only recognize the nuvi HWID 930 for Garmin MalSg map and the JCV.
