Converting Nuvi 2x5W Firmware to MAL/SIN Firmware

Hi Bros,

So how can I check what HWID my garmin 255w is having? from diagnostic page I can only see that it is a S4 board but no HWID info. Is is possible to flash it to local firmware?

dear android, what u can do is as follow.

go to your garmin folder, search for this file "garmindevice.xml". Open it (with internet explorer) and u'll see heaps of words. look for the 4 or 5th sentence with something like <00-B0930-00>. that 930 is your HWID. since ur using a S4 board, i actually do not recommend that u flash to Sg/My coz if u followed this thread patiently, many fellow mfm-ians have "whitescreened" their nuvis or encounter problems like being unable to ungrade software to v2.8 and so forth.

I am newbie to this Forum and hope to find some help!
Previously i have bought a GPS from US, tried to convert to SG map
using this website http://nuvi255wfirmware.blogspot.com/

Then after that, my GPS now white screen and cannot use anymore.

I tried many times to try to revive it but no use.
Hope i can get some advice from the experienced people here ?

you can trying flashing but results are really inconclusive. i have came across few people who have successfully flashed their 255w S4 but more who have whitescreened. in all honesty, unless u just bot yr unit and can return/refund w/i 14 days in case of defects, I may wanna warn you that a whitescreened 255w is pretty hard to revive. i read a few forum and apparently the only solution to whitescreened nuvi is to change the LCD screen which costs heaps (probably the price you've paid for yr nuvi). I also came across somewhere that garmin is not going to cover your warranty in an event of software tampering as well. nevertheless, if you are confident enough to flash yr 255w S4, please follow the instructions on pg 35 (this thread) closely, downloading the right files and change step 5 (slide and hold power button) to the diagnostic page method (which was discussed in pg 36 or 37). Lastly, if u ever attempted, please report your results and share with us.

I have successfully flashed a 255w S2 but whitescreened a 255w s4 (but that was because i used the wrong file!). will be happy to offer u any help o/w. =)

For American English keyboard, I have QWERTY and ABCDEF keyboard layout, but for British English, German and other Europe language keyboard, I only have ABCDEF keyboard layout, anyone here has idea how to enable QWERTY keyboard layout for British English, German and other Europe language? Thank you for your reply. your link is about how to custom QWERTY keyboard layout. I want to enable QWERTY keyboard feature for British English which had before in Garmin 255w US F/W version, just like American English keyboard layout.

For following the S4 flashing method, does it matter what the firmware is? mine is v6.1

Yes any firmware version is fine. But please make sure that your HWID is not 1091...if not the current flashing method will brick the newer HWID 1091 batch.

Plus pls check the version of your board also...read the instructions carefully.
