Hello to all the Gurus,

I am a newbie using Garmin Mobile XT in my PDA Phone using WM 5.0.
The program is running beautifully with the lates MFM Map v1.59 with all the POI and also the CPOI.

I am just inquiring if any one can help me install some Chinese Voice file and can be used with my present configuration. I have dl some chinese vpms such as Mandarin, Hokkien Cantonese etc. Copied into the voice folder in the SD card but they can't be used or do not show up.

Will appreciate if any Guuru can help. Thank you so much.

you need to install Gmxt Taiwan version over your us version to use chinese voice

Thank you for the very fast response and advice.
Will installing the Taiwan Version affect my current program and usage?
What about the sw.unl that I am using now. Will it be valid or do I have to get another new unl for the Taiwan Version?
Will I be able to use American English and at the same time use voice in chinese once in awhile. I prefer all instructions to be in English as my mandarin is not so great, so I will prefer my current English version except that once in a while I may want use Chinese, such as Mandarin, Hokkien or Cantonese voice instructions.
If most things go on to Chinese than I would prefer to keep my current version and forget about the Chinese voices.
Thank you so much. I am still learning and hope to contribute to MFM soon. I am using GMXT now but have a functioning GPSProxy v2.2c2 and Garmin Que. With that I hope to contribute tracks. I have already contributed some WayPoints using Mapsource. Thanks again.

Installing Taiwan Gmxt will no effect your unl files and you will have both US & Chinese goodie and best of all when you use with Garmin China NT the offset problem is gone

I have been operating my O2 Atom (WM5) with GMXT v5.00.30w since early April without any glitch.
Though v5.00.30w supports Chinese mainly, it can support American Englsih equally good as v5.00.20 (IMHO, no difference).
The biggest selling point of v5.00.30w to me is the availability of the qwerty keyboard (for input) which v5.00.20 is lacking.
Read this thread (pages 4 and 5) thoroughly for all the detailed installing and-or upgrdaing instructions before action.

Thank you thsalbert for your wonderful work with the Tw Version of GMXT 5.00.30w. I have downloaded all the necessary files and will be trying the upgrade if the need should arise.

I am now using the American Version 5.00.20w and it is working very well. I am particularly attracted by the Mandarin, Cantonese, Fukien and Hakka and could not use them with the ori version. The ori version has more than 20 languages supported, esp the european languages inlc Turkey - so I used the trick offered by thsalbert to rename the 5 files (Mandarin China, Mandarin Tw, Cantonese, Hakka and Fukien) into the various supported language Euro languages. The original files were removed and the newly renamed files were inserted. Voila!! It works thsalbert for the neat trick. I am not installing the Tw version for now unless I travel to Tw or China.

JayCee, the qwerty keyboard mentioned in thsalbert's post is added software "Resco Keyboard" and it is a commercial software and need payment. It supports quite a few languages (incl Thai) and can also be installed in the Am version of GMXT. It is not part of the Tw version as indicated by you but an added software. There is really no great advantage of upgrading to Tw version since the maps here are all English and I do not need Chinese support here. May be when I travel to China!!!

We are learn and share all the GPS think here. This version I can't select other langueges on my Omnia, Dopod 818pro and IPAQ 6569, so by renamed it as you did. But one of my China WM5 device which can have other voice selection.
The GMXT taiwan version will support all the soft and hard keyboard of your PPC. The US version only have the baby like a,b c d......z keyboard. US version have a Google map plugin, but need GPRS, especially when you are in foreign countried, it became useless. Taiwan version can read chinese map or Japan Kanji map as well as English map. More importance for those who are going to china, the location error was corrected with version 7.01 QSI China official map.

I will take note of your input and keep it mind for when I need to use the China map I will try to instal the Tw version.

The good thing about the US version is that it support so many other voices and because of that I can change the Chinese Voices such as Mandarin and Hakka and Cantonese to Romania, Protugese, Spanish etc which I do not use. So my unit can still have about 10 or more languanges installed and i can change the language or dialects at will - only thing is I have to remember the names I renamed to - or else I will have Hakka instead of Cantonese etc. I also have English American or English British.

Any thank you so much for your postings and they have been a big help for a newbie like me.
