Converting Nuvi 2x5W Firmware to MAL/SIN Firmware

i already start pening lalat after read all the reply...ok..can i confirm my understanding ere..

Now i having US unit which i bought last month from US bestbuy, Garmin unit 255W.
SW Version: 5.00
GPS ID: where to find?

This unit does NOT have:
1. Lane Assist
2. Junction View

This unit have:
1. Ecoroute.

ok..let say, if i flash this unit to MalSing 2.6..i'll get Juntion view except ecoroute..right?

Since none of the enlightened ones responded, I have to fill in.

Correct. To identify HWID, open ..\Garmin\GarminDevice.xml with Notepad. Find the first set of <PartNumber>XXX-YYYYY-ZZ</PartNumber>, where YYYY is the HWID, ie. if it states <PartNumber>006-B0754-00</PartNumber>, then the HWID is 0754.

guess what. let me maintain the US unit for a while with OEM system, since some user here lost one unit due to technical glitch...

anyway, no regret buy 255w which come with
1. Unit.
2. suction cup.
3. portable friction mount
4. two vehicle power cable (2 size)
5. usb cable

all at usd230 in package.

I have also just bought a (presumably US set) 255w. Tried to follow the recommended method to flash the US firmware to SG/MAL firmware but failed. Reason being when I plugged in the USB cable, the Updater does not recognise there is a USB device connected to it. Tried updating the 255w using Garmin's Webupdater and changed the software to ver 5.1, and do the updating of the firmware again. The Updater recognise there is a USB connection and allowed me to click ok - but this time an error message said "No update found". And after a while, the USB connectivity on the Updater is gone again.

Any advice here ?

Did you drag the .rgn file to the updater?

Did you drag the .rgn file to the updater?

Yes I did - but I managed to get it up! Some advice from someone to use the xxxx230sg.rgn file instead of xxxx230.rgn file. It worked! And I got my set flashed. Now I have other queries. I am not quite sure which maps to use, it seems the maps inside mSD card and the Garmin device are all the same. And I experienced a cannot unlock map message when I power up the device (I think it refers to the Garmins City Navigator Map), as I can see the Malsingmap in the system.

Just to share. I posted a for sale on my 6 months old Nuvi 265WT three weeks ago. My reason was to get one with JV & LA features. Big Thanks to @sgmy255w, I managed to flushed it and replaced with the My/Sin 2.60. Now I am a proud owner of a 265WT with JV & LA .


[Lane Assist feature depends on the map. My/Sin map currently does not support L A. I tried on CNUSA 2010 and it features that.]

Hi,
I have converted to Sg/My firmware following the instructions on the blog. The JV does not work as well as i expected as there are errors on some junctions and therefore confusing. In addition, I lost the Ecoroute which i find useful.

It is not very clear to me how to get back Ecoroute or reinstall back the US firmware. Could someone help to clarify please?
