Postby inergen » Sat Dec 03, 2011 10:00 am

i am new here and was introduced to this forum to learn more about GPS. fantastic portal after reviewing for awhile. was trying to DIY, but seems a little beyond me with so much info.

i would like to start off a project for my carpc, using winxp as the OS.

1. what gps software is best? i heard garmin and papago.

2. where can i find the maps for sin & mal on the latest version with full info?

3. an instructions on how to load the maps onto the gps software.

(1) Both Garmin (already discontinued) and Papago do not make any PC version.
(2) At Download section - you got variety of PND brand map to choose from.
(3) If possible, please read thru the library section, and it is very easy.

Actually Garmin had a navigational program for PCs called nRoute which is no longer supported by Garmin (ie., discontinued).

To download, google "Garmin nRoute" but don't go to Garmin's own site because they don't carry the software any more.

Bear in mind,

  • Garmin nRoute is not supported by Garmin any more.
  • You have to configure your own GPS to be seen by the nRoute program. How difficult this is depends on how technically inclined you are. (Probably need to do a lot of reading up on the internet.)
  • nRoute cannot see a lot of our map customisation and in my opinion makes the map look unattractive.
  • nRoute has no 3D navigation mode.
  • nRoute has no true full screen mode, so you will always see Windows elements such as scroll bars and menus.

After all that, if you still have the stomach for your CarPC project, good luck!
