I'm using the localised SG/MY Nuvi 1350.

In my micro SD card are the maps I loaded for my travels o'er seas.

My query is :-How do I rename maps ?

I tried renaming them on SD card but when loaded into my 1350 it still displays the ''original name".

Can I use gmaptool for this task.

Thks. & rgds

When you rename the map filename in the SD card you only rename the map filename... nothing inside the file is change. When your Nuvi reads the map it will display the name listed inside the map file.

To change it Run Gmaptool - Load file > Write > Check mapset and fill in a new name > write all. Not sure if this will change the name but it's worth a try. Let us know your result.

Hope this helps...

Moeryhc,

Yesterday I tried this but put in too many maps when I didn't want to ''stich'' them into 1 map cos' in future I wud be able to pick and choose.

Today,I just chose 1 map as as you suggested change mapsets name, then loaded into Nuvi ,the results are half & half.....the bold title next to tick box remained the same but the ''faint'' mapset name is as changed...

I came across a software ..JaWaGMKT....Garmin Map Tool Kit , supposedly can chane name but being a bloody PC dinosaur I can't even get it to work after installing on my pc.

If you're inclined plse give it a try cos I gave up on it.

Thks. & rgds.

If your intention is merely to have different maps available at the same time for use in your Nuvi 1350, you don't need to bother with GMapTool.

Just call your maps "<anything>.img" and save your various maps in a folder in your SD card called "map".

Example filenames:

    1234.img
    thailand.img
    europe-2012.img

Then you have the freedom of selecting or not selecting whichever map you want to currently use (we recommend you don't select more than one map covering the same area at once).

Moeyhc & tympg,
Just to elaborate on the issues, when I downloaded maps from OSM and when load into sd card the Nuvi reads them as OSM generic routable.

Having changed the mapset names as per moeyhc suggestion didn't solve the issue cos when displayed under map/info I got beside box for ticking.....OSM generic Routable and in finer print the mapsets I renamed. It doesn't allow me to have diff. listing for the diff maps.

Maybe it has something to do with the way the maps are ''linked'' cos with other maps I don't have such issues.

Anyway I've 'bout given up . it doesn't matter i can always load one map at a time.

I'm not savvy at all with computers .

I believe we have a disconnect between what you ask and the solution provided.

The members solution is changing the file name as displayed but managed by a PC operating system. You change names and put them in the Nuvi SD card/map directory and this can only be seen through a PC

What you want is the ability to rename the maps as displayed in the Nuvi Map Info vs the solutions by members who gave solutions. This requires a mapping software to edit the file and to change the name on condition you have the source code.

As you are not wanting to be involved more in depth into the technicalities of "mapping", putting into different SD card is on solution with the label name on it is one solution but this involves carry around a bunch of SD cards. The other solution is to put all maps into one SD card/map directory and maintain a written database co-relation between the map file name as displayed by a PC vs the actual map name.

Another solution without the hassle of a bunch of SD cards (or remapping to change the map header) is to copy all the maps into a large capacity SD card. Name them with a meaningful filename and dump them all into the SD Card: \Garmin folder. The GPS will not be able to read the maps with modified filenames so there will be no confusion. With the SD card in a card reader, you can rename the map you wish to use to gmapsupp.img. The GPS will recognize this as the one and only map available. Just repeat the process if you wish to use a different map but you have to make sure that the one you have named gmapsupp.img is renamed to something else.

Of course if you want the convenience of having all maps readable and select the one you want through MapInfo or MyMaps then your only option is to change the map header.

Silverbeauty & Jason Lee,

Yup both of you hit the nail on the head.

I'll not be able to manage process involved changing the map titles.

Finally I discarded all the OSM maps and loaded maps from other sources.

Tho I'm not able to solve my ''issue'' I did learn something.

Thks. & rgds.
