Enabling Nuvi 205W for JCV & Lane Assist

Postby JunJun » Thu Jul 23, 2009 6:00 pm

Share with your this information, I found this from other forum.
Do you ever ask yourself that why Nuvi 255w & Nuvi 205W which share the same firmware,
then Nuvi 255W can be used the Lane asist and JCV feature, but Nuvi 205W NOT.
You may think that it's because the Hardware related.
Your got notice that, every times when you switch on your Nuvi, which will first check your unit system and store into a file which is GarminDevice.xml
I doubt the Nuvi 255W & Nuvi 205W with different hardware. I always think that Garmin has write the firmware into Read Only memory in order to differential both model.
I always think that if you can flash the Nuvi 205W ROM, and make it as other model like 255W.
Nuvi 255W taiwan can flash to SgMy version and gain lane assist/JCV,
but Nuvi 205 flash to SgMY version but still not gain the lane assist/ JCV.
I found a interesting, but I can't confirm it'work or not, because I don't have Nuvi 205W taiwan on my hand.
How to doing it ? read carefully on below:

1) Flashing the Taiwan Nuvi 205W with US Oldest version v2.80 firmware which can change your Nuvi 205W to 2W series.
after this firmware flashing, your Nuvi no more as a nuvi 205W, it's Nuvi 2W already.
2) After the above flashing, your nuvi is 2W series with US software version 2.80 with US HWID:827.
And you can go to the blog to proceed firmware conversion to SgMY software.
the blog link is http://nuvi255wfirmware.blogspot.com/20 ... w-set.html
you can follow the step from above blogspot.
after the step, may be you gain lane assist/JCV feature.

If you have taiwan Nuvi 205W, and you have brave to try, you may try.
After you success to do it, please share it here to everybody.
If who brave to try, PM me for the US firmware v2.80.
Remind: Take it at your OWN RISK.
Remark: Purpose using Oldest Nuvi 2W firmware flashing is to change the model from Nuvi 205W to Nuvi 2W. then, no more limitation of JCV/lane assist for 205W model.
Good luck

Junjun, thanks for the amazing discovery and for sharing the RGN.

FYI, for testing purposes  , I reflashed the Nuvi2W firmware to a Nuvi200W and Nuvi205W, and then reflashed them further with Nuvi255W Sing/Mal firmware. The results, both of them are able to display JCV.

Thanks again for sharing the info with us. :good:

I think so (although both Nuvi sets above are with US HWID 0827), no harm trying, everything should be reversible (I think  ). However, I'm more inclined to discuss further via PM.

Now my friend and I can concentrate on the Nuvi 7x0 series research.

Suggest you read this thread viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3497

MFM for Gramin does not have Junction View. So you will have to use other maps.

The subject discussed and posted there are just as applicable here.
