With new PNDs like Holu62, user photos can now be inserted into navigation screens as icons
However, the photos must have gps coords in them to be used as such.

I may be missing something, but in Picassa and Irfanview, how do you insert gps data into a photo when it has no original gps data? I can't get the gps field to appear in the exif.

Bro Logos, there are 2 ways to non-Geo-Tag photos you can do it with a text-editor but you require knowledge and some skill with a computer or with a program like ExifTool

Geotagging using Picasa is quite easy, but needs GoogleEarth. See
