Hmmm, so mappers' effort is being taken for granted and be the profit generating tool for retailers like East Gear? Since now East Gear is marketing using MFM logo, what's the deal that MFM gets out of it?

No deal. Eastgear loads our map FOC for their customers and add their own SLA map on top of it. In return, they acknowledge the map is from MFM by putting our logo.

Bro, what do you want from Eastgear? After announcing publicly that MFM map is free for everyone, what do you expect MFM to demand from Eastgear? Maybe you can give us some idea?

Does this mean that if i go purchase a parallel imported Garmin GPS from eastgear, i can expect the Garmin SLA + Malfreemaps maps that comes with the unit to be an unlocked map i.e. i can freely transfer the maps to my Garmin GPSs bought from authorised Garmin dealers?

I need to confirm one thing. Is the Garmin SLA map locked only or does Eastgear lock BOTH the Garmin SLA + MFM map?

It is fine if Eastgear lock their own SLA map. They should not lock MFM map.

I have clarified this issue with Eastgear. Their intention was to make it simple for their customers by having one map file. They probably didn't aware that combining SLA with MFM will make it difficult for ther customers to update MFM map.

In the future, Eastgear's Garmin-SLA will be a separate map and will be locked. The MFM map will remain unlocked.

Well, I guess the 'free for everyone' means including profiteering too.

Just thought EastGear would have the courtesy to at least 'collaborate' with MFM as a good faith gesture.

From my understanding, nope. The EastGear's SLA+MFM maps requires unlock code. That's what an EG customer informed me.

Great. This is good effort. Now you should understand where I was coming from with that post.
