Need advice for Coordinates Position for my GPS

Hi all,

I am new to GPS & I have a question as follows.

I have 2 GPS. One run with Mapking & the other run with Garmin. But, when I wanted to key in the Co-ordinates position (Longitude-N & Latitude-E) from one (eg. Mapking) to another (eg. Garmin) & the position of the location is always not in the correct position as shown in the map. Pl see the following example.

eg. Mapking - E 103 54' 30.7"
N 01 23' 40.4"

Garmin - E103 54' 695"
N 01 23' 545"

As you can see the numbers in red is different. One with 3 digits & the other one with decimal point within the digit. How can I get the actual location by keying the E & N from one another? Is there any online map that provides the E & N position of a location so that I can just key it in the GPS.

Thanks

eg. Mapking - E 103 54' 30.7" >>> 103 > degree 54' > Minute 30.54 Second
N 01 23' 40.4"

Garmin - E103 54.695" >>> 103 > degree 54.695 > Second
N 01 23.545"

You can change it by going into setting.

Thanks for your reply. I try to go to Mapking to do setting but in vain. So, am I right to say that 695 sec / 60 sec = 11.58 which is the sec for Mapking?

on google map, you can right click your mouse on the POI and choose 'What's here?"..it will display the coordinates in decimal..

example: 3.164521,101.698575 Hotel cititel express.

Personally, i prefer this decimal format..far less confusing than the minutes, seconds etc.

It all depends on your usage.

The lat & long in the charts are always in degrees, minutes and seconds. So decimal may be less confusing to you but how are you going to plot your position on the chart ?

Hi, user66. I was so confused with the Google map coordinate. Whenever, I try to key in the N & E in my GPS. It always give me the wrong position. So, I gave up and decided to ask the bro & sis here.

Thanks silverbeauty. The link the you provide is really a great help. Thanks again.

A bit confusing here. I think the correct one should be

eg. Mapking - E 103 54' 30.7" >>> 103 degrees, 54 Minutes & 30.7 Seconds
N 01 23' 40.4"

Garmin - E103 54.695" >>> 103 degrees & 54.695 Minutes
N 01 23.545"
