Sunlight shining on the gps unit makes it difficult to see in the day. I've even tried covering it with a baseball cap. But when making turns, the cap will slide off. So i've made a shade from cardboard which fits & removed easily with a single hand. I've made two design. One for 3XX series & one for 7XX series. Both design are different because 3XX series have a flip-up antenna at the back.
Attached pic is for nuvi 7XX.

Re: DIY sunshade for GPS mounted on dashboard or windscreen.
Is there really a need for sun shade on the nuvi for use in a car ?
Previously my nuvi was mounted onto the windscreen. Now it is mounted on the dash with the aid of the dashboard disc. That position is much better because it is further away from screen so less glare, and it is nearer to the driver so easier to reach.

I made 1 for my 6xx and later another for my 7xx.
(coincidentally also 1 with flip up antenna haha)
Except mine is foldable shade so less robust and 2 hand ops

Mine cannot be fold because the material I use is mounting board which is quite hard (1 mm thick). It is heat resistant and will shield the gps unit from direct heat of sunlight.
