Yes, they have a shorter life span due to the high temp environment that they are exposed to. The water level DO get evaporated off & the battery dies off early.... and with the 4X's bouncing about, the water levels gets spilled into the next cell, and so on, leaving 1 or 2 cells dry..... pity 'cos they are expensive $$$ to start with......

I have stopped using the "sealed" maintenance-free batteries, what i'm using is the unsealed version, so that it can be monitored (made in Thailand types)

Uncle Wong, Thanks for the info. I learnt something new today. I didn't know that the vehicles with 2 batteries cut of one battery during normal operation. All the while I thought that they will continuously present 24V (eg. to the cigarette lighter), and that is why some of the cigarette lighter chargers for equipment are rated for 12-24V. So looks like the 24V rating is just to withstand the short duration of 24V during starting, is it?
