Try installing 'Garmin Training Center' first, then install Mapsource. No need to tweak reg file.

instead of running the registry tweak and then mapsource.exe, y not just install the *.msi file.. forgot whats the file name.. it will install without requiring registry tweak.. installed it that way on windows 7 64bit..

Vash_h,

SIGH. All was ok in XP Pro. I moved on to Apple. Now trying to install maps in Win 7 64bit.

Using the msmain.msi for mapsource 6.16.3 was ok. Mapsource is in but no maps. I used the default directory from the MFM installer but mapsource can't see the files. In which directory did you install your map?

Thanks, man.

Maps reside in Main Directory C:/Garmin in its each map directory.
Garmin added support for Win7 64bit since 6.16.1:
Try re-downloading and re-install.

Thanks for your input, guys.

I got it to work; still don't know what was wrong. On a brand new Sony Vaio, I restored the whole partition back to factory default, installed a map with a bundled old version of Mapsource first, then installed the latest Mapsource. It now works like a charm.

Cheers.
