:welcome: to MFM, bro weerra. How to be a mapper... a very good question. Asking you back, do you contribute any tracks or POIs to the community?

Yes, the Library has a lot of useful information on how to get started.

1. With your current equipment, you can start giving feedback, either on POIs (incorrect names, already closed/moved, etc) or routing (wrongly suggested routes, weird suggestions, etc).

2. With 1-second tracking capability, you can contribute new tracks, or highlight offsets in roads. The biggest thrill is if you're travelling and you see a track which is not on the current map. You ask yourself "Will this lead you over a cliff? Gotta find out..." Your adrenelin flows... Then you get to a point when you want to quit and exit but cannot do a 3-point turn, so you reverse all the way out. :nutz:

BTW, if you're using an Android, you can download free apps from the Android Market like (i). My Tracks and (ii) GPSLogger. The other software that you will need for the PC is MapSource (MUST!) and GPSBabel (file converter of numerous formats).

Start with these, ie: feedback and new POI/track contributions, and you'll find that its very addictive!

Hi all, I am really a noob on this stuff having bought a used Nuvi 255.

I am currently going through the library section and had problem installing MapSource 6.16.3 as it says that it is unable to find a previous version on Mapsource...

I find the map on the unit outdated and is it possible for me to update my maps on the used Nuvi 255?

appreciate any input from you guys. Thanks.

Here's the Library Index: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1443. A good place to start... and yes, it is possible to update your 255 with the latest mfm map, currently at version 110214 (format yy-mm-dd).
