Hi,

I will track using my car if I need to cover long distance. Within a taman, I will ride my bicycle. I used to write on a piece of paper the names of the roads which I marked using my 60 CSx. Now I have graduated to a Sony voice recorder. The good thing about the recorder is that I do not need to stop my bicycle repeatedly to note down the road names.

Yes, we do look crazy riding round and have people looking at you. Going into dead ends and having to reverse your car out. Going into a kampung and having to reverse out with the kampung folks looking at you. Getting your car scratched and having bumps if you are not careful. Chased by dogs. Riding under the afternoon sun. Waking up at 4 am.

for me..for tracking some new area like 'Taman'..meet with 'Pak Guard' and tell him that i'm working with MFM Mapping Company and show my ugly Nuvi200W..just little explaination..allowed me to enter Gated & Guarded area..firstly i'll go around in taman to track the boundary area and then go with 1st rd,2nd rd,3rd rd....example jalan seri austin 6/1, 6/2....second road just put the number only..save ur time..usually i'll tracking with my ugly MYVI..simple car to track and easy to handling with narrow area...more convenience..small car like kancil or coming soon..TATA NANO... :peace: :peace: :peace: :rox:

Hi Zamad,

I find the voice recorder easy to use. I tried to use my phone initially but did not like it. With the recorder, I only need to press one button to record or to turn off recording. This is very important when riding a bicycle. It is very small and handy. It uses only 1 AAA battery with 1G memory. The 1G can last 47 hours of recording.

What I am thinking is that...

Say when you are tracking road A, B, C, D. When you are on road A, mark a waypoint for that road (eg. waypoint x), and record with the voice recorder with something like "Waypoint x = road A". Do the same for road B, C and D.

At the end of the day, you will have something like

Road A (waypoint x) - voice recorder message --> "waypoint x = Road A"
Road B (waypoint xx) - voice recorder message --> "waypoint xx = Road B"
Road C (waypoint xxx) - voice recorder message --> "waypoint xxx = Road C"
Road D (waypoint xxxx) - voice recorder message --> "waypoint xxxx = Road D"

When you download your tracks onto mapsource, just verify your waypoints with the voice recording and change the name to the correct term (Road A, B, etc.) accordingly.

This is the method that I am using at the moment. But, as I do not own any voice recorder right now, I will either try to memorise or get my BH to do the recording :lol: :lol:

Normally my BH takes down the notes of the POI. When I press the 'log' button on my Q1000P, she notes the time (car clock), POI name, town and whether it is on the left or right side or the road we're travelling. The format I use is shown below. It is printed on A5 paper and clipped to a, errr... clipboard. Reflecting back, sometimes it is difficult to make out her handwriting when I do the track/POI editing. Imagine trying to write while travelling on a B road. I'm also looking out for a pen with light/LED so that it is possible to scribble in the dark. So, a dictaphone would be an ideal upgrade to this tradional method.
