AGPS is NOT internal GPS receiver.
if the phone spec says it has AGPS, most probably it must have an internal gps receiver. AGPS is just a tool to enhance GPS receiver thru network provider. if u turn off AGPS, the internal GPS receiver still functions & get the gps data freely (no charge)

as for windows mobile, i can only refer to my phone which uses quickGPS program for it's AGPS. basically it's always off unless u manually download it.

hmm, :-k
thanks for yur explaination, become more clear to me.
i have aGps too in my SE G502, that using the prov's BTS's signal.., celcom ate my rm20 credit in 7 minutes only..! :$gone:
(no have broadband subscription yet), that's why i change to buy dedicated GPS.. :$$:
i think SE G502 don't have a GPS receiver one such as PDA model, cause more practical to have dedeicated GPS rather than bluetooth external GPS..

Try Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Positioning > Positioning Methods. Here you should be able disable/enable A-GPS.

This is confusing. I think I am getting old and I am finding more problems digesting all these gizmo stuff.

I made several phones calls to Nokia and Singtel. These are the *facts* that I got. I am intending to buy the Nokia N86.

1. Usage of GPS is free
2. Usage of AGPS invokes GPRS.
3. I will incur local data charges when using GPRS. This will be charged at half a cent per Kilobyte, SGD0.005 / kb. The charging is based on the data charge and NOT how long I use the GPS ie like making a phone call.
4. There are no other charges ie usage of the navigator found in the phone.

Are these facts correct?

Yes

Yes

GPS is free, AGPS or Assisted GPS uses the service provider server to plot location thus incur data downloading charges. Nothing to do with phone call which DOES NOT involve data

4. There are no other charges ie usage of the navigator found in the phone.
Roaming also is chargable ....

Are these facts correct?

Actually, many pple confuse GPS with GPRS.

Then I come out with something more easy to understand.

Using GPS is like listening to Radio. Just need to buy the device and receiving of signal is free.

Except for the AGPS part.

Just to 2x sure in case I get a shock when I see the bill.
There will be no such charges if I use it in my home country?

Correct, no charges at all, as long as AGPS is disabled.
