had fancied a GPS unit for a few years but just couldn't justify myself owning one (i was aiming for the 60Csx) just for the heck of it although i don't need one as i'm pretty good with directions and map reading. but ever since i started to venture into southern thailand, that's when my internal compas go haywire. lol...

just got myself a 2nd hand nokia 5800 and the license for the built in Maps already expired. tried google maps but it requires constant gprs for map download which is a killer while roaming in thailand. so currently i'm attempting to install Garmin XT on my own. will have to see if the installation doesnt crash my device before i proceed further.

thanks for the mappers here!

**update**
ok, i managed to install Garmin Mobile XT into my nokia 5800, saves some money from going over to those ppl in lowyat. USD99, eh?

its nice to know you'll be in the gps community. as you are still new, its also important to know that we do not condone to piracy acts, we do not tolerate non-original products, we do not support cracks or hacks. only the original.
so whether you paid USD99 or not, we dont really bother, but you shouldnt speak of it out loud in here.

thanks.

Noted. I read the rules before i posted here. Just to avoid misunderstanding, yes i paid for the license. Thanks again.

:welcome: bro mardost... both Papago and Garmin are good. It just depend on your personal preferences which you already made the choice.

Hi guys, my name is Sip. I recently bought a Garmin nuvi 285wt from US for a steal(30USD) as a gift for my dad here in Malaysia. However my concern is trying to install malaysian map into this device for free. Is there anyone willing to guide me through this? Your help would be much appreciated.

Merry Christmas by the way.

Hi Sip, there's already a guide for installing map into device. Please go thru this topic:

MFM-Garmin Installation Step by Step Guide

For map installation into device, just follow the steps until sub-topic: Creating MFM-Garmin map using MFM Garmin Map Generator.

Salam & Greetings to All.

In Dec 2008, my big bro bought a new Garmin unit and gave me his old Garmin nuvi 200 (well, you have to start from somewhere). In that unit, he already installed it with MSM maps. That's when I got myself into MSM community.

First thing that strike me as odd in MSM was when I have to contribute (POI or error reporting) or make a promise to contribute, before being given the unlock codes for the latest maps. I have to beg for the unlock codes with the promise to contribute. That was no fun.

Second thing that strike me as odd was when they asked me to be a mapper for Alor Setar area. I thought to myself, how come such a well known community did not have any mapper from Alor Setar?

For a year ++, I have been loyal to MSM. I have heard few of my friends talk about MFM but I did not bother to check MFM out due to my blind loyalty to MSM.

Then just last week, another friend of my mentioned about MFM and this time, I did check you guys out and DAMN! I was hooked like a drug addict on cocaine.

The people here are more lively and fun, the website template are the same but MFM had these colourful icons that brighten up the whole visual. You guys did not ask for anything.. just give give give.. and in return, people responded in giving sincere feedbacks & updates. All for FREE!

Yeeeehaaa... I had my christmas present last week when I register with MFM! So long MSM.. good riddance.
