Hello All,
First, welcome to mfm.
I am pleased to know that you have installed MapSource on your PC. This is very important if you want to contribute to the mapping project. I am glad to know that you want to contribute in our maps..Good.
If I can suggest to you that you take things one step at a time. The mapping project is a large one, sorry, very large one... so we start at the very beginning.
1. For members who do not have equipment to log tracks and POIs, they give feedback to us about new areas to be tracked, or new POIs to be included, OR, tell us of incorrect tracks or POIs in our current map. One of us here in the forum will take the cue and do the necessary.
2. For members who can do tracking, they submit the tracks and POIs. This is what I am suggesting to you. After you have recorded your tracks and POIs, convert it so that MapSource can read it. Use MapSource to edit and clean your tracks. Don't submit a track 5km long when what you really really want to contribute is the 500m track. If you want, you can also do a screen capture of the MapSource screen (resize it to 800 x 600 max) and submit TOGETHER with your MapSource file, either in GPX or GDB format. You can annotate it with arrows and text to help clarify your point.
3. For members who are familiar with the mapping project, they are invited to join several groups of mappers, like polygon mappers (they construct polygons to depict residential, industrial areas, playing fields, plantation, etc., to enhance the appearance of our map) and regional mappers (who physically trace all our tracks and put properties to them)... they are the ones who join roads together. For the time being, forget about being a mapper!
4. Bro Anyong collates them (#3 above) from all the regions and makes an EXE file for members to download.
Those are the basics. Don't be like some newbie that are impatient wants to rush things. There is a lot of information in our forum, but sometimes a bit difficult to find. I suggest that you search through slowly. Search for converters here that can convert your binary files in your PND so that Mapsource can read. It is a very worthwhile effort.
So, to summarise:
1. Record your tracks and POIs (and take note of road & building names too)
2. Convert the binary files using a converter(s) so that Mapsource can read it.
3. Edit & clean your file, then SaveAs either GPX or GDB file.
4. Optionally, do a ScreenCap of the Mapsource Screen and edit it.
5. [IMPORTANT] Send it to the correct forum.find a suitable sub-forum under "Penang Map Feedback".
If you submit your contribution the correct format, to the correct forum, you can be rest assured that it'll be in the next release map... then you can check whether or not your contribution has been included. Then repeat steps 1 to 5 above and submit again...
Goodluck
