Hi JasonLee,

Please allow me to continue with the topic of migrating datas to SD Card.

Below is the directory tree of my nüvi internal memory (I've cut off most irrelevant files to make the image easier to read) :

Image

As you can see from above, I've stated which file is which map together with it's file size.
Those 3 maps were preloaded when the time I bought it.
Those TXT files I created myself to help identify which file is which map.

Here's my SD Card structure:

Image

As you mentioned before, the SDCARD\Garmin\ folder can only contain 1 map.
The other 2 maps I can put in SDCARD\Map\ which does not have much limitation.

Let's make it this way for example:

  • MfM NT 2012.10 save in SDCARD\Garmin\ <-- Use this as primary map
  • MSM NT 2012.10 and CN NT 2012.10 save in SDCARD\Map\ <-- for backup purpose

Now, if I switch to City Navigator or MSM later, will I still have the Junction View if the associated JCV files was already inside SDCARD\Garmin\JCV\?

My concern is, will the other 2 maps become wasted if I move them this way?

And, I will definitely want to also keep a copy of cGPSmapper map, we never know it could be a lifesaver in case I have problem with the NT maps like I had earlier.

I don't know if I listed these out clear enough? I'm sorry if my language and post layout confuses you.

* I've already backup everything from the device, so you can guide me the unsafe way. *

:tq:

Dear Bro G K Lai,

I appreciate your ingenuity to use a text document to identify which map is which but actually there is no need to go to such trouble as you can easily find out about the map info anytime if you have GmapTool (for which you can Google and download.) With GmapTool, you can also get rid of the .UNL files as you can incorporate the unlock code into the img file.

I did not realise that you have .UNL files as I have got rid of all mine. Without GmapTool, .IMG files must be copied together with the corresponding .UNL files and whatever name you change the .IMG file, you must do likewise for the corresponding .UNL file otherwise you will get the "Cannot Unlock Map" error message.

In other words, if you copy the gmapprom.img into your SD Card\Garmin folder, you must also copy the gmapprom.unl file into the same folder and when you rename the gmapprom.img to gmapsupp, img, you also have to rename the gmapprom.unl to gmapsupp.unl. Do likewise for maps you have copied to the SD Card\Map folder.

As I advised you,if you copied all the JCV files into your SD Card\Garmin\JCV subfolder, you will have JCV regardless which map you decide to use as your primary map (and renamed it to gmapsupp.img and copying it into the SD Card\Garmin Folder). While there is a limit to the number of maps you can have in this folder, there is no limit to the number of times you can copy and rename a map into this folder.

Nothing will then be wasted. If you are happy to use the other 2 maps without JCV then you can leave them in the SD Card\Map folder but anytime you wish to use any map with JCV, just copy it into the SD Card\Garmin folder and rename it to gmapsupp.img

If you bring your GPS to the GG, I can do all the steps described above for you and show you how to do other things you may need to do.

The place has Muslim food and do provide regular drinks. We can also have a separate table for the happy go lucky... We have had it in such venues in the past. A GG is about our Map... and I'm more then willing to change venue if someone can suggest a place.
Ok! Thanks Moeyhc, maybe I worry too much, haha....

Thanks for the tips on GmapTool, although not read full detail yet, but I can see it is useful!

Regarding UNL file, it was not exist in my fresh new device backup, maybe that was created after I did the online update to City Navigator map, but anyway, I'm not worry about rename it, no problem, haha...

Does that mean, whenever I want to switch to other map with Junction View, I have to do it with a card reader on computer, but not directly select other maps from the device?

It sounds not so bad, can definitely consider to do it this way. :D

Ok! Ok! But I do not have a laptop computer... :( May have to use yours...

Bro Jason, did I read your post correctly?

Are you saying that even the weekly MFM generated map saved as gmapupp in the \garmin folder will be able to use the Junction View, so long as as the \garmin\jcv folder has the jcv files? :-k

Hi Bro Ace,

You have either read me wrongly or I have expressed myself wrongly.

The weekly MFM cgpsMapper compiled map DOES NOT HAVE JCV. cgpsMapper cannot compile maps with JCV, LA, Exit Info or even Speed Limits.

I never recommended Bro G K Lai to save the weekly MFM cgpsMapper compiled map as gmapsupp.img in the SD Card\Garmin folder as that would be wasting the possibility to have a map that can display JCV.

I recommended him to save the MFM weekly map as MFMxxxxx.img in the SD Card\Map folder.

For his 3 preloaded maps which all have JCV, the one he chooses to view with JCV should be saved in the SD Card\Garmin folder as gmapsupp.img while the other 2 are to be stored in the SD Card\Map folder as YYYYY.img and ZZZZZ.img (which still can be used albeit without JCV). Whenever he wants to view the JCV of one of the other two maps in the SD Card\Map folder, he should copy it into the SD Card\Garmin folder and renaming as gmapsupp.img. Needless to say the existing gmapsupp.img in the SD Card\Garmin folder needs to be backed-up first and then copied into the SD Card\Map folder as XXXXX.img.

Trust there will be no further misunderstanding or misinterpretations.
