Smartphone garmin vs standalone garmin

which is better?
please advice



on smartphone, its cheaper, but not sure if u need a telco network if u using it in another country.
can it run without telco network, just on phone gps. it of course drains battery unless u charge while in use.

on standalone, its always running, just higher cost for the hardware

Which is better depends on how you use.
For Frequent use when driving, Standalone Nuvi is more convenient, also for smartphone SP, its better to use a 2nd phone else difficult to navigate if you need to use phone functions at the same time.
If not driving, Phone is more handy and easier to charge and multi-purpose.

Without data you can still use SP in other countries, just turn on phone GPS and off data-roaming,and there will be no data charges . The satellite lock is faster if phone is active with foreign Telco.

Garmin StreetPilot is available only for iPhone and map is stored in iphone / iPad memory so does not consume data.

GPS on smartphone is a battery drainer so unless you have access to a powerbank or car power source, its usage time is limited by the amount of energy you have in your iPhone / iPad.

Remember iPhone does not have external SD card capability so the maps does take up main memory space and if you go overseas, thats another map ( if available ) to fill memory .. plus favorites etc ...
