Routing by KPE

Postby briant » Tue May 05, 2009 1:25 pm

The maps have been great - thanks.
However, i noticed that the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) is not used by the routing engine in most cases .
Eg: When i route from Pasir Ris Drive 12 to Jurong East, for example - it would route me via TPE towards Airport -PIE-Jurong when the obvious faster & shorter way is by TPE towards West-KPE-PIE-Jurong.
Please help to review the "weights" put on KPE.

Bro Briant, routing also has to do with your default settings in your GPS. There is a menu which you select the Shortest route, Fastest Time, Highway avoidance, Toll avoidance, etc.... All this has end effect of your final route :-'

Noted silver, but independent of whether i select shortest or fastest under the config settings, it will not route via KPE which was odd to me.

Did you check that for avoidances, Highway avoidance, Toll avoidance are not selected ?

Post an example of routing so we can verify.

sure.
route preference setting: faster time
avoidances: disabled
start pt: IMM, Jurong East
end pt: Elias Mall, Pasir Ris.
v1.56 recommends: PIE -> CTE -> TPE -> Elias Rd (34.7km)
i feel a better alternative would be: PIE -> KPE -> TPE -> Elias Rd (30.7km)

I did a simulation via Mapsource. it took the route as you suggested via KPE. You should select "shorter" distance.

Start IMM, end Elias Mall. Total 29.3km

Have not tried on my Nuvi or HcX yet. Should be the same.

wow - that's good checking.

did try with route preference set to "shortest" but it gave me a funny roundabout way.
my nuvi 205w does not route the same as mapsource then.

Speed limit for KPE is only at 70km/h, but due to software limitation, can only set at 60km/h.

KPE will not be the faster way unless you want to drive above the speed limit. :-$

thanks ongcc for the clarification.
is it feasible to set KPE at 80km/hr if not 70km/hr, rather than 60km/hr?
this will allow the route sw to recommend KPE more, and to motorist - a better alternative going to/from North East.

KPE is in most cases, a faster travelling route than CTE (as traffic is lesser eventhough speed limit is lower).
