I really should consider if its better that I just remain a silent member. Since my first posting, the replies had been quite hostile and confrontational. Bitter after-taste. Granted the name-calling was uncalled for. No room for critics it seems. I don't want to be just a yes-man.

There are some who even thought that I might be from "the other side". I really have a lot to say about that but I questioned its benefits. Nonetheless my big "thank you" to the few who had welcomed me.

I think if you have not digest what antyong had said, it will be good for you to keep silience.

And why in the first place critic should take place? You have called all who put in effort to make this forum and community running successfully, a "pipe dreamers" ??? [-X , you care to explain what is your motive or why, what's wrong with having a dream, especially a wet one.... :tease:

Indeed my "Who are you to say..." was confrontational. If you are indeed new to this community then you know nothing of the effort put in by those you called "pipe-dreamers" and underestimated the efforts they are capable of. When your first post is to call others "pipe-dreamers", what kind of response do you expect? My response was from the point of view of a mapping enthusiast who had witnessed the power and productivity of collective mapping effort.

Yet what was said had been said. You are welcome to share with us your opinion why you think we are all "pipe-dreaming". Otherwise welcome to MFM and make yourself at home. Perhaps you will discover the interest of mapping and will be part of our mapping team in the future Definitely possible and not a ..dream

Someone already pointed out that ASEAN = Association of South East Asian Nations.

Actually ASEAN is a grouping name, ie. countries can join freely and and can also be dropped from it (eg. recently there are calls for Myanmar to be kicked out from the group). Who knows what can happen in future... maybe SG or MY may quit from that group?

Perhaps I like to make the suggestion that we could use SEA (South East Asia) instead.

myseafreemap?

I also like to join in the discussion about the domain name... By now, MFM (malfreemaps) is a brand name (a strong one, may I add). So it doesn't matter if SG or Thailand or SEA is included, or die die MUST be reflected in the name. In fact, if it is changed too often, it may lose its identity. I am from SG and I am most happy to be part of MALfreemaps. So perhaps the mappers (and the rest of us) shouldn't spend too much time on the name, and do what you do best - provide FREE maps!

:good:

Smart conclusion for closure .... =D> :good:

Some might whisper but out loud, where only the birds could hear: Whats in A Name???

Not when it may someday be on everyone's lips... esp. those who get lost finding their way for being ignorant and regret terribly for not doing what is right, by not buying the right GPS for the free map that comes with it... ](*,)

While others will regard, a name means EVERYTHING!!! Provided it is the right one that hits home....

So whatever it is eventually... make it unique but one that most Asians can easily relate with. and for those coming from far & beyond, its got to sound and read typically Asian, without question!

Bagong,

Plse do not be disheartened by all the replies. You may have started off on a wrong footing by your initial posting, so in the meanwhile, you just have to bear with it.... ](*,)

'Group dynamics' is exactly what it says.... it is 'dynamic :ko: in nature'. When one makes a comment, neither there's no response at all or a whole lot of responses, be it positive =D> or negative  ....

All I can say is - get to know more by reading into the archives, joining in the GGs - in time, you'll find all these guys & gals here are really a bunch of 'nice' fellas.....

btw, what's wrong is a "DREAM" - it's truly the 1st step......
some 'dream' in silence, most leaders 'dream' in public :champ: .....

Cheers, Bagong :peace: - welcome to My'ASEAN'FreeMaps......

ps: I'll be very upset  if you do remain as a silent member [-X [-X [-X

The ONLY sensible posting in this thread. The rest are just pipe-dreamers. Sorry guys. Lets take it one step at a time. Baby steps even.

Hi Bagong, I have been following the reactions to your first posting and I do not blame those who reacted rather aggressively towards your statement. Your opening statement was rather provocative and gave an impression that you are out to create trouble. There is a big difference between a critic and one who provokes. Your "ONLY" in the statement in bold type and capital letters speaks a lot for your intention. I note your apology for name calling and I hope that it is sincere. Why did you post such a provocative statement in the first place? It is ok to be a silent member but we would appreciate if you can be a contributing silent member like me. Are you from East Malaysia? If so please take your first baby step and contribute to the maps of East Malaysia and I am sure those who reacted with hostility towards you will be kinder towards you.

Sorry for my late entry into this discussion and I quite agree with Pel for the suggestion to use SEA (South East Asia) instead of ASEAN. The difference is political and geographic so perhaps it might be worthwhile considering geographical description... in case one of the countries later decide to quit membership of ASEAN.

This would look like ASIAN and denotes that the maps would be convering the continent Asia.
