If I remember correctly (sorry if my memory is not that good these days), easter eggs were invented by bored Microsoft programmers to challenge each other to find what they have hidden and activate them. They have easter eggs buried in Word, Excel, etc., but they must not affect the functioning of the program they are embedded in and be able to pass the audit by beta testers, in other words, they are completely hidden and non-functional. Mistakes or other artefacts in the maps are not hidden and will affect the functioning of the maps and hence cannot be classified as easter eggs.
Lean not on your own understanding

Oh well, definitions.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_egg_(media)
But anyway, it is a fact that such "eggs" exist.., As long as they stay hidden, or obscure and doesn't affect NORMAL functionalities..

Streetdirectory.com though has provided free maps for personal use, it has been involved in lawsuits against other businesses who used their maps without permission
Singapore Land Authority sued Streetdirectory for copyright infringement in early-2008
My point is that even free maps are subjected to copyright infringements ... and how do they prove ownership ? Through documented "easter-eggs"

Jason, in the context of mapping, maybe this is more relevant:

Bro SB, I think we had to get the fact right : SLA did not sue Streetdirectory.com, or for that matter, any individual for using the SLA maps as long as it is not for commercial purpose since day one. It was not until Streetdirectory.com who started court action again businesses and demanded payment for using "their" (Streetdirectory.com) maps which they (Streetdirectory.com) copied from SLA.
So, the Company dig their own grave.
