My ASEAN Free GPS Map Project

MSM have MSMWiki http://www.malsingmaps.com/wiki/ as repository of common knowledge on GPS. So senior members can easily point newbies to said wiki for FAQ and basic GPS information. We can still do the same to newbies here in MFM, by pointing them to relevant articles on MSMWiki. However, we would have problem getting MFM specific articles on MSMWiki.

So, after some prodding by Jaguar and discussion with Antyong, I've setup GPS Maps Wiki at http://gpsmaps.wikia.com with charter to be wiki for "using, creating and updating maps for GPS receivers with mapping features that anyone can edit". One of the initial articles I've setup on GPSMaps Wiki is How to install Garmin Mapsource. I based that on a similar article in MSMWiki by drtamil, but I've modified for GPSMaps Wiki to refer to subsequent installation of *either* MFM or MSM mapsets.

I would appreciate any comments on GPSMaps wiki here. I would especially appreciate any members here to update and create new articles on GPSMaps Wiki, that is useful to refer MFM newbies to.

In the future if/when MFM choose to setup a MFM specific wiki, we can export/import articles from GPSMaps wiki to it. Particularly easy to do if the new wiki also use MediaWiki software.

Bro sabre23t, i tried clicking on the link but the web page doesn't load up and after a while, my pc hang....

Everyone is not genius, just doing little by little, after times when we look back improvement can be seen!

Mmm ... That's funny. I've just tested that http://gpsmaps.wikia.com/wiki/How_to_install_Garmin_Mapsource again, and found I can connect to it quite easily from Klang's TM Streamyx connection. Mmm ... Can you try again? If still problematic, can you try out the main wikia site at http://www.wikia.com/? Can you access that?

It is ok now, i have to wait for a while before the page load up,maybe due to the slow connection i had.

just tried 2min ago (from SIngapore Maxonline), now opening another tab within IE, still seeing the IE loading icon rotating ... hmmm, bandwidth issue? did a ping get an average of 220ms with no drop packets, and tracert to gpsmaps.wikia.com, only a few hops, strange ..

try another way, by adding www -> http://www.gpsmaps.wikia.com , bingo, normal speed, this is name resolution issue. so access with www as prefix if your browser has problem ? ( the other tab opening gpsmaps.wikia.com still loading ....)

I used to post alot of articles and how-to in MSM wiki. Can I move what I have posted there to this new Wiki? Of course, it will be updated with newer infomartions.

It would certainly be welcomed by me at http://gpsmaps.wikia.com .
However, I hope by "move", you mean "copying over the good stuff here" and not include "deleting the old stuff there". We can and should take the high ground here.

Hai ya.. sabre, I just created an article or at least the one I touchced upu the most on "using nRoute with non-Garmin BT GPSr".... i can't get it displayed on the main page under HowTos leh... must be drunk oredi...
