My ASEAN Free GPS Map Project

Guys,

Try previewing a post with "www.malfreemaps.com" and you will notice it becomes something else. We wanted to inform all contributors and the public of our move to this new forum. It would have been proper closure of our activities at Malsingmaps. We were denied this reasonable action. Bro Sunn's attempt to inform by PM was also blocked. His outgoing PM's are deleted.

I also wish to inform everyone that we did not transfer our map data and rights to our maps to Malsingmaps. We brought our hard work with us to malfreemaps.com to continue sharing with everybody. Just as our N Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Singapore are currently blank, we expect our former colleagues at Malsingmaps to rebuild their own empty areas. We did post to Wsian our latest compiled map for Malsingmaps' next release and if they wish they can use the same version for all subsequent releases.

I don't know the reason for not allowing the public to know of our existence. If you like what we are doing here, I hope you can help spread the words around.

Now Malsingmaps got 2 competitors in Malaysia, Tele Atlas (Commercial Map) and Malaysia Fee Maps (Open Maps Project).

Dun worry, I will help to spread the word, hehe!

PS : Bro Antyong, is Malsingmaps copyrighted? I though it was made by public contributions.

you are right bro antyong....if i not mistaken, i do saw an announcement regarding to MFM this evening....but now it wasn't there already....whats in their mind now

Great to hear that you are back in the mapping community and not 'put out to pasture' as we originally thought.

Well, it good to have choice and with this new Malfreemaps if it means another option, then it certainly is good for all those in the GPS community. So besides the commercial Garmin maps, users have additional choices and depending on individual needs, we will find eventually whose maps suits us best.

keong, this one is a million dollar question, literally ... we had huge shitfights over this at MSM. At one point, we thought we settled the issue but given "the troubles", can bet your bottom dollar that any past discussion/resolution is no longer valid ... it may not even exist in the forums no more ...

Best to just start with what we've got now and move on from here ...

We started with close to zero back then - very little technological know how on mapping, no routing, no GE, no SIRF3 GPS'. All we had was the desire to build maps that filled white space, some mad trackers who literally drove the streets of Mal/Sin to collect tracks and an awesome community spirit of contributing and sharing ...

So much has changed and improved since then. As long as we keep the community spirit going, building any map is easy such that the issue of copyright is a completely academic questions...

Despite being in jail, can start something new, on the verge of forming the new govt even. Hmm, I see a lot of similarities with the MSM-antyong-MFM situation, don't you??
