Hacking Copy Reverses Engineer of MFM Papago Maps to Resell

Postby malfreego » Wed Jul 07, 2010 11:26 pm

I purchased a R6600 during PCSHOW 2010. It came with MFM map, SLA Map, Indonesia and Thailand map. I was told that the SLA map was licensed from the Singapore government is more detailed than the MFM

What shocked me was that when I did a search for road name Simei Rise on the SLA map, the location was exactly the same as the MFM map! Even the roads of the condos looked similar. When I did a comparison, it was 100% the same. Another search of Jalan Membina on SLA map also yielded 100% same results as the MFM map. The co-ordinates of the search result was exactly the same. I have also done a few rote test, and spotted several route errors that occurs in MFM Singapore map are also found in this SLA Map.

It occurred to me that there is a possibility that the MFM Singapore map must have been reversed engineered or someone in MFM has sold/pass their data to them, and they put in the SLA data and called it the SLA Map! It is impossible that 2 different mappers will produce the same road structure down to the naming and co-ordinates!

If this is truth, this is stealing and absolutely not acceptable! MFM should take action and stop such copying. I believe that the people behind the R6600 do not believe that MFM will or can take any action against them and hence they are so blantant.

The greatest surprise was when I receive this E-Paper this morning and was shock that this publisher now claim they have procession of FULL SINGPAORE, MALAYSIA Maps Data!!!
