Merry Christmas And A Very Happy New Year 2011.....

I was experimenting with various methods of overcoming the navigation lag until I stumble upon the SDHC 10 card from my Nikon D7000. I loaded it up last night and tested it on my Nuvi 300 UK & 205W Taiwan. On the 300 the difference is not noticeable but I can clearly see a vast improvement on the 205W. My SD card is a 8GB Kingston SDHC class 10. Anyone with such card please help to confirm if this is true. I also notice the screen refresh rate is more frequent and faster. My driving speed today is between 40 - 80km/h.

The highest Class of the SHDC card mean the read & write is faster.

As per the device is reading the map info from the card constantly, it is definitely help to solve the lagging performance for the device!

I am using Kingstone 8Gb SHDC card but Class 6, it is fine for me running my PPG R6100 with all maps.

No wonder you have different navigation routing issues due to the SHDC Class 6 card.

What type of memory card your PPG uses, never heard of SHDC card? The class X define the speed of the SD card. Class 10 denotes it can run at 10M/B rate and class 6 is for 6M/B. The lag I'm referring to is for the MfM Garmin maps running in the Nuvis.

Loading the map into the main memory does not gives this effect. I conclude that the unit memory is also slow. I'm dying to get my hands on a SDXC (eXtended Capacity) class 10 to test... cheers!

I've not tried the high speed SD card yet, but I've removed most CPOIs, but speed alerts and sharp bends. Now the 205W responds better.

Maybe SHDC is Super High Definition Card? When plugged into the GPSr, it will have enough accuracy to tell you when to step on the brake and when to turn steering wheel all the way to make perfect parallel parking lor. (But then the maps also need to draw individual parking lots accurately lah.) Hehe!!

I have been using just a simple 256MB SD card all along and so far so good. I only have MFM map in this card. All other files are in my device.
I think you may have too many files or else a few very large files in your SD card. Faster read and write does help.
However, have you tried defragging your SD card? I am thinking out loud as I have not tried it. This might help towards reduction of lag.

SHDC? SDHC izzit?

I dont think it is possible to defrac a SD card. Irrespactive, it is faster to format and reload the respective files. Before you do any format make sure you know what file structure you are using. May not be for the faint hearted or you can also wipe out the wrong drive....
