Adding new lane (in blue) which will most likely link up NSE with Lumut Expressway sometime in the future. Presently, this is not open to public!

Motorists often miss Ipoh exit after removal of toll plazas

GEORGE TOWN: Regular North-South Expressway users travelling to Ipoh have reportedly been missing the exit ever since the Ipoh Selatan and Jelapang toll plazas were removed on July 14.

Those who overshoot Ipoh, would make a U-turn either at either Kuala Kangsar (for northbound motorists) or Simpang Pulai (for southbound motorists) a few kilometres away.

PLUS Expressways chief operating officer Nik Airina Nik Jaafar said regular highway users habitually drive straight until they reached either the Ipoh Selatan or Jelapang toll plazas.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference here yesterday, she advised motorists to look out for the many signages indicating the various turn-offs into Ipoh.

The toll plazas were moved to separate lanes parallel to the expressway following a RM283mil upgrade.

The Jelapang toll, now sited 800m south of its original location, has been renamed Ipoh Utara toll.

Nik Airina said the through-traffic would help to minimise jams during peak periods such as school and festive holidays.

The move to separate the traffic between the highway and the local road, she said, had also improved traffic flow at the existing interchanges.

“Northbound motorists from Kuala Lumpur this Hari Raya will save time and have a smoother journey.”

They would not have overshot had they use MFM map.

Bro OngCC, from the news article, it appears that the toll plaza below should be renamed Ipoh Utara. :tq:
