Standardization for place of worships

In our latest 1.15 Map, when I search masjid, only half from all masjid in whole Malaysia shows in list under 'masjid' and when I do second search using 'mosque', there'r another list.

My suggestion, I hope all mapper can change all label in map from word 'mosque' to 'masjid'. I highly recommend we use label for this muslim holly places to Masjid and not mosque.

In latest map, I also found some madrasah also call as masjid :).
For muslim, there'r 2 type of places for prayer...
1. Big place, usually build with full stoneblock, have many towers , usually build only one in town or city, can fit more than around 100 prayers and over and officially use for 'Sembahyang Jumaat' that we call't as Masjid.
2. Like local house, usually use papan and sometime mix with stone block, can fit not more than around 50 prayers and below, don't have tower and only use just for 5 days prayer and not sembahyang jumaat... that we call't as Madrasah.

I hope, in our next MFM map, we can see more masjid and more madrasah around country. This place is important especially for muslim.

the word mosque sometimes come first & sometimes comes after the mosque name. this also should be standardise. but i think "surau" is the more common name for small masjid, not madrasah

ya surau...
madrasah i think kelantanese dialect loo....
so i think should use the uniform name,
maybe antyong can give good idea...
maybe we should open thread about Masjid POI...
but ithink we have problem about naming this masjid at spore coz English is main language...
any idea?

Personally, I believe POI naming should be based on the preference and convenience of their users. It doesn't have to be all English. IMHO mosque POIs are mostly for our Malay members. So if you guys prefer to use masjid, madrasah, surau, etc, post your opinion here.

You have to advise me because I am familiar with religious matter and it is very sensitive to certain people. Make up your minds here at this topic.

Is masjid or madrasah a common name to the world or its only known in malaysia?

I would suggest to use english, so that muslims tourist that install MFM into their GPS can benefit from it. We have a lot of muslim tourist every year and still increasing... :$$: :$$:

Masjid = mosque;
Madrasah and surau in english is?

Cheers.

i think the very first step is to change all mosques to masjid & put masjid as the first word followed by their name. i think this is not an issue since masjid is arabic, all muslims thru'out the world should know that masjid is mosque. let the suraus be as it is for the moment, as long as they are all placed under "place of worship" & searchable

I would rather categorise masjid, madrasah, suras as 'masjid'. It would wouldn't matter much to me as long as I can find either those plces to perform prayers whenever I'm on the road.

Can I propose the naming convention as:
Masjid <name> <place>

e.g.:
1. Masjid Al-Mukarramah, Sg Merab, Kajang
2. Masjid Kg Jenderam Hulu

Does all masjids have a specific name, beside their location (like 1. above)?

That was my 2 sen.

i'd rather have some diferentiation between masjid & suraus. you can still search suraus under "place of worship" isn't it?
i think all mosques/suraus got their official names, not necessary start with "al-". it can be as simple as masjid kg baru

yes...
we should naming that masjid using name of place..
eg Masjid Bukit Katil
coz i think we have limit number of letter when we use GPs...
