If you search the Internet for TourGuide and Alert POIs, you'll see that the authors mention only Nuvi or compatible devices. I might be wrong, but I think that PDAs running the GMXT software were not intended for true in-vehicle navigation. That's why Garmin produced the Nuvis and the Zumo models for car/motorcycle use.
Actually GMXT has no problems using GPIs even with audio file embedded, although it will not be playable. On the other hand, Garmin Que does not support GPIs and does not even have the feature to support proximity/speed limit alert. The only option is using POIs map, and it's just for visual purpose where these POIs will be visible while navigating. The POIs map can be converted from GPX using Sifu Antyong's ezIMG, however POI icons will be standard. For more personalized POIs map, the process is: GPX > GPSMapedit > compiled using free CGPSmapper.
