The list is going to be huge. It takes time for me to update into a proper format. Thanks for your patience.
Malaysia and Singapore dedicated website for Food Point Of Interest or commonly known as Food POI. GPI and GDB available for download. All foods tested with photos.

I assume the rar file was extracted to a gpi file. If this is the case, all you need to put that gpi file in the \Garmin\POI folder, either in your Nuvi or your SD card.

Yes, created as subfolder of Garmin (ie. x:\Garmin\POI)

Re: Food POI - Authentic Fook Kin Chau

Postby AW* » Wed Apr 22, 2009 3:32 pm

Place: Mun Wah Hokkien Mee

Location Description : EndLot Shop at beginning of 2nd Block of Building along Jalan Maharajalela after the loke yew/maharajalela intersection (going towards Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall direction)

GPS Coordinate : N3 08.196 E101 42.177

Address : 155 Jalan Maharajalela (if you try getting the coordinates by using this address, the coordinates will come out "different", giving a location further down the road, i've tried it).

Contact No : not available

Business Hour : Mon-Sun 5.30pm - 11.30pm

Food Type: Authentic Hokkien Mee/ Fook Kin Chau done the good old fashioned way (ala cantonese style like back in the 70's) and Cantonese "Lor" Mee. Seasonal vegetable stir-fry, chicken, pork seafood stir-fry, kung-po style, fried or with soup base. Only the big yellow noodle or mee hoon.

Price: Reasonable

Payment Terms : Cash

Cleanliness Votes : umm, depend's on personal rating

Food Votes : 5/5

Air Conditioned : No

Halal : No (definitely NO cos they use 'fried pork lard' or "chu yau jar")

WIFI : No

Smoking and non smoking zone : No

Recommended Foods : Fook Kin Chau (of course - either this or Fook Kin Mai or Mix Mee Hoon/Noodle Chau), Lor Mee (1 style of course) and Fried Sotong - truly delicious, crisp, seasoned just nice not too salty and fresh. Sou-base Lala ("Soon Thong Lala")

Remark:
They run a roaring business especially in the evening (for i've been there only evening after work). Place become crowded as the night wears on and the fans come in droves. Be prepared to
1) either wait to be seated Or have your table set up along the sidewalk (but sheltered from inclement weather) (the interior of the shop is small and stuffy from the cooking)
2) double park (nicely and properly if possible) if all legal parking space is taken up. Won't advice you to park haphazardly as this location is just after the loke yew/jln maharajalela traffic junction otherwise you may end up obstructing oncoming traffic or risk your car being hit by oncoming traffic.

Give me a holler if you go try this and compare notes :)

Re: MFM Food POI List - Details - Porridge Specialist

Postby AW* » Fri Apr 24, 2009 10:13 am

Hi All

here's another good eatz spot, especially for night-owls around Old Klang Road ("OKR")

Place: Lock Tin Porridge

Location Description : Light Industrial Lot behind the PBB along OKR (OKR direction towards KL)

GPS Coordinate : N3 05.347 E101 40.405

Address & Contact No : sorry i don't have it.

Business Hour : 6.30pm to 3am. Only closes on 1st and 15th day of Lunar Calendar ("Chor Yat and Sup Ng")

Food Type: Specialises in Porridge :
a. Ala Cantonese (Variation: Scallop, Fresh fish, Chicken, Mix Seafood, Frog ("Tin Kai")
b. Teo Chew Porridge. Variety of accompaniments for Teo Chew Porridge. Accompanying dishes are skillfully cooked daily with minimal artificial seasoning. (this is what i like most). Most accompanying dishes are fresh cooked instead of "canned food" items. You'd also like their "slow-stewed" "ham choy". Tasty yummy yum.
c. Also on the menu : Double-Boiled Dessert ("tong sui" - one of which is suet kap)

Price: Reasonable

Payment Terms : Cash

Cleanliness Votes : Clean, spacious and airy

Food Votes : 5/5

Air Conditioned : No

Halal : No

WIFI : No

Recommended Foods : Lala, if it's on the menu, the stewed harm choy, the stewed pork meat and tau fu/egg, etc. But do try other dishes. They are all equally delicious. The cook has lots of skill, it showed up in his cooking, the taste is balanced and not extreme and all food is cooked just so- without being overdone, be it steamed dish or fried or crispy, etc. Certain days feature

Remark:
Lock Tin has been featured several times but the newspaper cuttings are in Mandarin. Has its own huge faithful followings. Lock Tin used to be sited across the road at the "backyard" of the "furniture" shop that's just beside the Esso station and just before (OKR direction to OUG) the Pearlpoint Hotel Traffic Light Junction. When they moved to their present location which is bigger and better, their fans just followed them.

Since it is located not facing the main OKR, Lock Tin puts a neon sign (Mandarin Text) out at Public Bank (on the ground) to advertise their presence.

To take note : Parking is limited but you can park in front of Public Bank and walk to the back to Lock Tin, the shop is well lighted, back and front, internally and externally.
