GPS location for schools in Malaysia

Here's something for all the Cikgus .. a late teacher's day present....

Was just tinkering along the Ministry of Education website and managed to extract gps data of 9000++ schools.
After some adjustment I deleted along the line of 2000++ schools because either the coordinates were null or in another country altogether..

so here it is.. i hope this can be put into the official map after sometime..
need tonnes of feedback because some school i noticed the coordinates are a bit off..

I wish i had this when I was first posted .. would make it easier to get to school .. :D

p/s: this is the official naming as per MOE... if there is a clash, i believe the name in the file should be followed. if Sunn wants I can also send the original excel file :)

p/s/s: the comment is used for the school code

Pls be informed that Sek. Keb. St. Mary (N3 09.128 E101 42.459) is no longer there. The place is now under commercial development.

Thks bro karlbum for the initiative! :tq:

However, as far as Ipoh city is concerned, the location of almost all the schools in your file are offset. :peace:

Below is just a few examples...

That said however, your file can help me pinpoint the location of rural schools (not yet in our map) when I am tracking. With the coordinates, I can narrow down the search area where the school is located.

Thats the good one bro!
But most of them are placed far from the real position.
Based on my view in Batu Pahat area.
Or the KPM used another coordinate system?
Too far offset for BP area real school POI

as i've said before this need verification, because i can only guess where KPM/MOE got its data, and that is probably old data. AFAIK they use it on google maps, so need to take that into account. i'll cook up a Google KML in a bit for verification.

probably we can weed out the problematic schools by comparing it with the data/poi already in the map and keeping only new schools and then we can alter their locations as the report comes in..

hopes this clears up my due contributions eheheh

It's a good find even though some locations are way off. Good thinking to include the school code as I can merged your data with MOE's list of schools so that it's possible to apply filter by city, state, etc.

If we filter the list of school by city=Kuala Lumpur we get some schools with coordinates in Klang.

Filter State=Johor shows some locations spillover into Pahang and Singapore.

There's no public edit on the above tables, need to PM me your gmail address if anyone would like to collaborate updating the coordinates.
