MFM-Garmin 101108 Feedback

We will have to come out a better scripts to control the download pocedure. As, the last 2 weeks records show, we ONLY have 1271 uniqe IP / Users in a day, and the page view impression GOES up to 4713 pages! It mean, each user are REFRESHing the page 3.7 times! And it also, mean, some users are ABUSING the system![/quote]

Actually, I am working on it. But, need to plan carefully and won't affect the user download experience too much. Coz those irresponsible users keep refreshing the page will make our statistic collection effort useless and it will eventually put mfm to situtation where difficult to get others map format release.

The reason mfm maps is so welcome, simply because it is FREE and being input by soooo many members around the countries. So, when the GPS Navigation software maker want to release their map in this region, mfm is the best partner that they can come across, So, this statistic collection is to prove/show the "welcome" by the public.

but won't a hit counter do the same job?
I can surf MFM, without downloading anything.
I can also download, without surfing MFM.
I don't think anyone is out to "Poisoning" any data & effort, its just their browsing habits.

You get me wrong, we DO NOT kept the record for general surfing on the mfm site, We ONLY collect the data for map downloads. That's why you see the "EXTERNAL LINKS" are not allow now and the page for download is not in mfm site, it is link to another page.

The page serve 2 main purposes:
1) Try to load balance the traffic to multiple servers (which currently being abuse by some members)
2) Every time you click or "refresh" the page, it will record the "download". Coz currently, we "trust the good faith" that members will just use the link being generated by the system and use it as it is. Not kept "Refresh" the page to get different links"

Some members advice me not to "shown" the server that assign by the script, but by doing so, the members will really "STOP" there?
Our challenge here is, how can we provide the reasonable fast download experience for members yet the data collection is "clean" and "accurate".

Hmm...then this statistic gathering also may not be accurate. Assuming user don't click refresh at the MFM Garmin Maps Download Page. Just click "EXE" link, it goes to FileServe....download failed. Go back to Download Page again, "EXE" again, FileServe...download failed. Repeat few times. Higher stats already?

No one complaint about Fileserv server having issue, for your case, I think the problem is on your side.

yes. coz it is compile on the sunday nite (nov 7) and release on monday (nov 8)

It will show 101108 if you create the mapset by Mapsource.

Is it really important for whether the Map data's date is either 101107 or 101108 ?
few days later, we will get another latest map.
