Just a thought, by right, when we do updates, we shouldn't be downloading the whole *.img, we just need the updated parts of it.
examples, say, for the whole week, this 60308888.img got no changes at all, then this 60308888.img should be excluded from the "update".
or
if there's only a very minor/small changes to this 60308888.img, then won't it be easier to download the "changes" only in order to make this 60308888.img an updated one?
At the download section, we'll have the Core program MFM at 65MB
every week, download an update(changes only) maybe the size of 5MB ?
Or even a change log, so user can decide if the download is necessary.
Becos for me, I don't drive out of sg, and I generate the gmapsupp.img (abt 10MB) using Mapsource with Singapore Map Data only.
Change log? Mappers are busy with the map updating & need to take care of the rice bowl at the same time, how to keep track on the change log? Perhaps you want to assist on the change log compiling?
The img with changes will be placed together with the Core-program, thus making the updates same as what we normally download from MFM, then generate that gmapsupp.img, there isn't any missing steps, why would this method not able to search all the address in the img?
These updates will include, Map layout, POI, Postal Code, Street Address, Solution to bug from different Area (Singapore, west part of Sarawak, east part of Sabah, Borneo....)
what I mean by change log is, to allow user to know if there's changes to their usage needs. Like, if there's no changes in Singapore map, then those using Singapore only do not need to download for that update.
I don't mean a change log as in what exactly had been changed, like, blk 123 Ang Mo Kio add to the address, kinda stuff, thats not useful and too much effort.
As always,
