Actually if you analyse the number of members in MFM against the contributions/post, you will be quite shock!!!!   (data from (08/05)

Total no. of posts = 79,361
Total no. of members = 23,123
Members without any posts = 18,886
Members with only 1 post = 1,527
Members with 3 - 10 posts = 1,252
Members with 11 - 50 posts = 553
Members with 51 - 100 posts = 87
Members with 101 - 200 posts = 69
Members with 201 - 500 posts = 45 =D> =D>
Members with 501 - 1,000 posts = 18 =D> =D>
Members with 1,001 - >3,000 posts = 10 =D> =D>

I leave it to everyone to figure this out.

Notice that there is no more DELAY when i pass through each junction (less polygon map), even you're driving at high speed :peace: Previous and the previous map got this problem, but now, this problem fixed. :tq: :good: to bro ongcc.

The cost of hosting usually is not significant. It's the cost of bandwidth that's the main cash-cow for hosting providers and their telcos.

Hosting with 20Mbps or more Bandwidth Speed+1TB of bandwidth volume+reasonable disk space = est. >S$500 per month (if hosted within MY or SG).

Like for me, we are paying for about RM4K per mth for the services.... :frus:
So, all the speed is come with the price tag.

Gee.. that much huh.. I don't know it's that expensive. Well, I don't mind on the current situation.. if i can't download it on the first day, will try at odd hours or the next day.. and kept trying again until managed to get a decent speed. But looking forward, with increasing number of GPS users and bigger maps, it's going to be a headache. Well, I'm sure you guys can think of something. I don't know what to recommend as I'm no expert in hosting server & dealing with bandwiths. If need donation, for sure i'll contribute.

The reason why I put up the analysis was in relation to bro jchoong comment and not to as a poll (thanks abang tuah and bro ccwong for the suggestion and link).

Look at the number of members who have posted in the forum against the number of members, only 1% has more than 11 posts. If you count those with more than 100 posts, it is less than 0.5% of the total membership registered. 80% of members have never posted anything here, which means 0.5% of the members are carrying and bearing the burden of contributing to the forum, either in feedback, tracks, way-points, serious and hilarious topics, etc...... So how to collect donation from members?

Note: this is not meant as a topic to inflame or instigate anyone, just my observation....aplologize if I step on anyone's toes :prayer: :prayer:

Correct. If you look it at the other way, it is less than 200 members who cares about MFM :peace:

For the meantime, we still don't need any $$$ to support ours servers to serve the high traffic of the download. I bring up the download traffic issue here is to let members understand that nothing is come by default, as like bro sandmanz mention, if can't download on the first day, then try on the next day, 1 or 2 day delay to getting the maps will not post serious to your daily usage. \:D/

Currently we are just serving MFM-Garmin maps, imagine when the time MFM resume MFM-Papago maps, the current traffic might not be able to catch up.

I just hope that if any members that are using our maps and have a little bit of extra bandwidth and server space cab spare, please pm me, so we can server our members better.

I'm still flipping a coin on whether to post & share the file on my house DLINK FTP server. Somemore i'm only running a ADSL 500Kb upload only. dunno if my hardware can handle the load :P

Guys,

Sry if the method i'm proposing already been discussed. I'm proposing using bittorrent facility to distribute weekly maps. We just need one dedicated seeder to seed the maps hence lower the burden on mfm bandwidth. As far as I know tmnet didnt throttling the bandwidth for bittorrent anymore(i'm not 100% sure but in my experience they didnt) so streamyx user 'might' be downloading at almost full speed(depending on seeder/leecher). This is only applicable on streamyx bcoz thats the only connection i got now.

However, theres couples of consideration to be taken for ex. broadband user, P1 and also singapore telco etc. etc.

pls dun fire me if i post n00b post :prayer:
